  1. After wonka and mean girls I wonder if the trailer will dare let the audience know it’s a musical
  2. Unlike Jurassic park, I’d still be moderately interested in further alien instalments if the talent backed it up. The monster will never provoke the same horror it used to, but if a director really committed to the OT’s analogue aesthetic and sense of mystery then the richness of the world and grim mood definitely allows for more good movies. Or just play lip service to the alien and be really, really weird. It (just about) saved Covenant.
  3. No opinion on the show but calling something ‘marvel zombies’ after the year it’s had is not great timing
  4. I don’t know why you’d give a shit about that but either way get used to it because it’s going to happen a lot with the rise of paid-off review influencers getting positive reactions out early. Doesn’t mean all films will have that downturn but we’ve seen it often enough.
  5. Quinn would be a very flavour of the month choice but it’ll be nice to finally see a Brit playing a superhero
  6. Endgame script is that increasingly crude horse drawing meme. First 45 mins of the world dealing with the aftermath is by far the most interesting, and should have been its own movie. The time travel shenanigans are a moderately fun “look how far we’ve come” victory lap that outstay their welcome, and the final green screen battle where each character gets their hero pose is boring as fuck. It made all the money in the world so who am I to criticise the product, but coming after the much superior infinity war probably didn’t help.
  7. Guys, ‘reactionary’ doesn’t mean what you all seem to think it does
  8. Both knives out movies are fine. I don’t think the same “bait and switch main female character beats the rich entitled male villain” shtick will work a third time in a row though.
  9. Not a big deal but I feel like “legacy” is a bad title for a reboot. It brings to mind the needless ambiguity of superman returns, which was kind of, but barely, a sequel.
  10. Netflix didn’t keep it in theaters because it actively regards theaters as competition. Their CEO said they were leaving a lot of money on the table by taking it out of cinemas but as far as they’re concerned people going out to the movies means they aren’t binging on Netflix.
  11. It’s objectively hilarious that deadpool is now seen as the mcu’s saviour given the character’s film history. Reynolds had to film and leak an entire action reel just to give Fox the confidence to make the inexpensive first one.
  12. off topic but it’s funny how “Hollywood is hyper liberal” came about. As someone else noted, if you’ve ever seen the cops win in a show or movie, there’s a 95% chance it’s conservative entertainment.
  13. Great to see Disney continue to flounder. Re: Napoleon, I’ve actually heard a few people in Real Life talk about it, which is very rare for movies these days. Happy to eat crow if it finishes with a good total but it’s probably safe to say that isn’t happening. I want Scott to succeed as much as anyone but his storytelling instincts have been fuzzy for while.
  14. Thanks for the responses. I’m sure the movie’s ok, like all marvel and marvel adjacent movies.
  15. Is no way home that bad? There were raves when it came out but it’s basically a running joke now.
  16. i remember thinking it was ok but (as with modern day captain america) wondering what the fish out of water comedy we never got would’ve been like. They do it for about five minutes with Thor then it’s forgotten
  17. I generally don’t like superhero movies but I don’t pretend to not get their appeal. Cap 4… I still have no idea what they’re thinking. It’s a big ask to get people to pay for a movie follow up to a beloved tv show. But they’re asking people to pay for a movie follow up to falcon and the winter soldier. So honest question: what am I missing? Is it really as simple as marvel believing “well it’s the new captain America, he’s got to have a movie (shrugs)”
  18. 99% of the time I’ve heard it in relation to this movie it’s been from people imagining a misogynistic bogeyman that magically made the whole world not want to go to the cinema to see it.
  19. Impressive for saltburn. Weirdly I’ve no desire to see it even though I want movies like this to do well. Just don’t have the appetite for a class satire I guess.
  20. Maybe I’m old but I still find it impossible to care about audience scores. The only interesting part is how much more they’re talked about now. The nice thing about box office is it tends to have the final word on success.
  21. I've been here for years and I’ve still no idea what movies people are referencing half the fucking time
  22. It is crazy. One wonders whether so many people being underwhelmed by it resulted in much of the indifference we’re seeing now.
  23. I have no opinion on her ability but she’s certainly an odd choice given the 50 Shades films feel like a lifetime ago and that’s all anyone would know her for. I’d get it if she was flavour of the month but she’s not even that.
