Weekend Estimates: Gravity - 55.5M; CWACM - $21.5M ;RR - 7.6M;

One box office stat to finally fall this weekend is a pretty crazy one - "Gravity" has now become Clooney's top opening weekend as we all know, the crazy part is the movie it beat. Clooney's previous top opening weekend is probably the most critically reviled punch line of a movie "Batman and Robin" all the way back in 1997.

From BOM:

Across all of the marketing, Warner Bros. managed to convey that Gravity was an experience that needed to be seen in a theater—preferably in 3D or IMAX. This helped get people out to theaters, and also got them to cough up an extra few bucks for 3D: according to Warner Bros., 80 percent of Gravity's opening weekend haul came from the premium-priced showtimes.

its not going to make 200m DOM. a very high OW shows some signs of frontloading. the market who watched it is the older male one.

You can't be serious. It had a strong jump on Saturday showing a strong IM for the OW which bodes well for the legs.

In addition to what others have said to this hilariousness, Gravity is not a fanboy or franchise film, it didn't have a specific audience waiting for it.

I could assume there was some anticipation for Gravity, however this should be a big crowd pleaser over the course of the next month.

derp

$150-170M is the bottom of the barrel for Gravity. $200M is likely.
