MrPink
So like, Chris Pine gathers his crew and says "salad mi familia"? Yes. And when Simon Pegg ditches the crew, Chris Pine is like "You don't turn your back on family. Even when they do."
kowhite
Yes. And when Simon Pegg ditches the crew, Chris Pine is like "You don't turn your back on family. Even when they do." I don't have crew. I got family.

But Chris Pine seems like the kind of guy who'd try the Belgian ale

moviesRus
I feel like this franchise is going to have diminishing returns domestically. I highly doubt this sees anywhere near the first movie's domestic run, although they'll make that up internationally (the first ST's OS number was horrendous). They could play on the 50th anniversary hype similar to how James Bond did. Could help domestically
kowhite
They could play on the 50th anniversary hype similar to how James Bond did. Could help domestically I do feel like Star Trek has its limits. But if Lin delivers, it'll do its 200m+ domestic numbers. And I can't help but think international will go up. This has been soft there, there's room.

kowhite
September is a shitty month for release Yeah, how bout Labor Day weekend. Let's double down on the shitty release date.
grim22
September is a shitty month for release If you release an appealing movie, it can make money anywhere. Hotel Transylvania has made a franchise from September release dates, Gravity and The Martian will be big grossers with October 1 release dates. Every month used to be a dead zone for grosses before one movie changed it, the 1-2 punch of Lone Survivor and American Sniper has made January a good month, 300 changed March, Twister made the first week of May a good date before Spider-Man cemented it. I feel Star Trek Beyond could have been the game changer for September, it will be 5-6 weeks since the last movie which would open above 30M by the time the 50th anniversary date arrives, market the hell out of it and September is also wide open with no major releases. Use that empty market to their advantage. I believe every month can support one blockbuster for sure. Dementeleus
It might be a fun movie, but I'm not sure it'll be much of a Trek film.
Orestes
It might be a fun movie, but I'm not sure it'll be much of a Trek film. So it wont be any different from the previous two, then .

moviesRus
I just think this franchise has failed to capitalize after the first Abrams film. Doesn't really help that it's main stars haven't exactly taken off and the only one who has in also in two far more popular space franchises.

4815162342
Define 'trek film' All Trek films before NuTrek? But seriously, even the more action/adventure Treks like Wrath of Khan and First Contact are still a decent ways apart from NuTrek.
lilmac
Based on the title and what I've read, this Star Trek and Beyond will take the crew outside the Solar System and will involve distant worlds which is what I think Trekkies want (a big criticism of the recent movies)...is that right?
