CoolioD1

Weekend Estimates: The Hobbit - 73.6M | Frozen - 22.2M | Madea - 16M

The interesting question is how the film holds up over the weekend. It dropped a good bit from AUJ on midnights but the day drop was quite minor. This indicates that DOS had less of a rush factor than AUJ, otherwise the day drop would have been more comparable. If that is true, then the base Friday day gross for DOS should have a better increase on Saturday than AUJ's base Friday day gross.

And I maintain that this will have fairly better legs than AUJ since reactions have been better to it than AUJ and it's built as more of a crowd-pleaser, abrupt ending besides.

Anyways the film has like what 4 weeks to make money now?

I said this last year due to the holidays a lot of people were surprised how TH went from a low gross to near 300 million by the end of the holidays.

However its the Holidays.

CF has a good drop, should drop to 14 million and its falling behind IM3 pace but Holidays are still coming.

Should be near 400 million by new years.

Spending 200m 3 times to make ≈ billion three times. WB knew exactly what they were doing.

Thank god you are not in business.

AUJ probably would have gone on to about 315-20m but its legs suddenly died in mid/late January when there really was no competition to explain it.

And let's have perspective the other way.  LOTR didn't have 3D and it didn't have inflated prices and it didn't have as big a world wide market as Hobbit does.

Plus bad exchange rates for first 2 LOTR movies. If they had same exchange rates as ROTK both would have been over 1B WW as well.

Isn't this Halba guy the one who makes non-stop statements such as this one, for like half the blockbusters out there?
