grim22
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/son-god-church-leaders-buying-680462 'Son of God': Church Leaders Buying Out Theaters For ScreeningsReligious organizations are seeking to flood multiplexes with faithful audiences for the Fox-distributed film about Jesus Christ, based on the hit "Bible" miniseries. Church groups are seeking to take over entire theaters for opening night screenings of Son of God, the upcoming movie about the life of Jesus Christ. Crossroads Church in Cincinnati is bringing thousands of people to a Cinemark theater, where Son of God will be showing on 13 screens at the same time.Various religious organizations throughout the country have been buying out screens and distributing tickets to groups of thousands of people for "Theater Take-Overs" on Thursday, Feb. 27, the night before the film's officially released, according to production company Lightworkers Media. "Our church bought out every screen in the theater," Crossroads' Brian Wells said in a statement. If anyone comes to the theater to see another movie that night, they’ll be out of luck, unless we have a few extra tickets to give them!” There are a few other theater buyouts for Son of God scheduled at Cinemark locations throughout the country, according to the theater chain's marketing and communications head James Meredith. "It’s very interesting to see this level of excitement around the movie," Meredith said in a statement. "The interest level for meetings, events, screenings and buyouts seems to be on par with that of major blockbuster, tentpole or franchise movies." Jake Gittes
If I were Verhoeven I'd be laughing my ass off. I actually wouldn't be against Starship Troopers getting PG-13-remade, just so it could also flop and finish with less than $54m that the original made two fucking decades ago. CJohn
No numbers yet? Boring. Meanwhile over here Endless Love flopped. Winter's Tale, RoboCop and The Awkward Moment dominated today. Frankenstein, Jack Ryan and American Hustle saw good bumps. For Her and Philomena it was a normal day, didn't felt they were affected by VD too much, I think they would have done the same in a normal day. CJohn
This is why Sony is having huge money problems. Who in their right mind would greenlight a 100M RoboCop remake and a 100M Pompeii project?! Edited February 15, 2014 by CJohn
TLK
This is why Sony is having huge money problems. Who in their right mind would greenlight a 100M RoboCop remake and a 100M Pompeii project?! Yep. Neither of those movies have any big name actors either. Robocop may yet get saved by OS audience but Pompeii may be doomed if it doesn't break out in the US. BenedictL11
http://variety.com/2014/film/news/robocop-getting-crushed-by-lego-movie-at-valentines-day-box-office-1201104849/ If it gets $13M on Friday, I think it'll get at least $60M over its 4-day weekend. Even with a modest 45-50% increase on Saturday and 15% drop on Sunday, it should still get to that mark.
