The film hasn't been in production for 7 years, Jim has been doing other stuff. Like organising a team of engineers to make a deep sea exploration submarine and piloting it himself to the deepest point in the ocean and seeing the floor in the marina trench with his own eyes.

 

Anyway he has only really been doing low cost script writing and designing prior to this year.

Solaris is the only Lightstorm movie that Cameron didn't direct or write and Alita would have been delayed if it was releasing Dec 21. This is almost definitely Avatar.
