Weekend #s on Pg 34. Divergent 56M. Muppets 16.5M. Peabody 11.7M, 302 8.6M, Gods not dead 8.5M

I wonder... did Son of God suffer due to God's Not Dead? Is there competition among Christian films.

Just looking at the theater counts and the theater averages, all 2000 theaters that are showing Son Of God need to switch over to God's Not Dead next weekend.

(Of course there's already many showing both, but you get the point.)

I imagine most people who are not Christians think this way.

If I had to identify myself with a specific religion, it'd be Christianity (I love the gospels, not so much the rest of the Bible so it often leaves me conflicted on what to think), and I think The Passion is torture porn.

Amazing for the grand budapest hotel! where is it heading? $50 is pretty locked, $75? $100?

Moonrise Kingdom made 45, and GBH is starting out seemingly well over twice the size MK starting out at. I'm not sure it will stay at twice the size once it reaches full GA nationwide saturation, but you'd be pretty surprised if it doesn't hit 75 from this point, wouldn't you? And while I'm not sure it will hit 100, at the very least at this point we can't rule 100 out. It's definitely possible.

I think one huge factor helping GBH right now is that there is an almost total lack of other high-quality smaller artsy releases for it to compete with right now. Bad Words is making a small dent there, and Tims Vermeer has been around for a few weeks, but other than those, nothing. The arthouse movie crowd really can devote 100% of their collective attention to GBH. It seems like there were a lot more "major" movies competing for arthouse attention last spring. (Mud, Place Beyond The Pines, Trance, Spring Breakers, The Company you Keep, etc)

It's already made 100 dollars...But because I know you mean million id be pleasantly shocked if it even made 50m, I hope it can though, but I don't know how well it will play outside of limited release.

The only issue with Son of God is exactly what was said above mine: it's already been released. I don't have a problem with Christians watching it.

I'd be disappointed if Son Of God was still playing at more theaters next weekend than God's Not Dead. Like I said last night, if GND could have had a wide release at 3000 theaters, it might have beaten Muppets for second place this weekend.

How is that different then re-releasing a film like Lion King, Titanic or Star Wars I in theatres again?

I'm atheist, and I don't think its torture porn or anti-semitic at all.  I think people that call it those things are just easily offended with really delicate sensibilities.

Because those are meant to be seen on the screen.Son of God was never intended to be a movie. And putting it on the screen, without changing anything in its production values, story, or anything else, is simply looking for money, imo.And while I think re-releases are good, I'm not the biggest fan of them in the world.

So what is the expectation for the Monday through Thursday numbers?  About half of the middle school and high school districts in the U.S.A. will be on spring break this week, so that should help a little bit.  Would we say about 3 million each day?  So 12 million total from Mon. through Thurs.?  Assuming today is good for Divergent, let's say the official weekend number is 57 million.  Are we looking at 70 million total in its first 7 days?

I'm not offended by it, but I believe it's soulless and lacks the passion stated in the title. It's more about showing him be beaten than showing why he was beaten. There's to much put into the physical detail that it misses the emotional and thematic detail.I personally have found Mel Gibson to be a fairly weak director in this regard, his movies tend to be more about the one dimension physical layers of grand events, and don't really go much further. His best movie (Braveheart) was good because it combined the grand events with the emotional depth and complex why's that went with the epic how.

Does anyone know who The Muppets are meant to appeal to?I didn't grow up with The Muppets, but I've seen quite a bit of their stuff in the past 2 year and frankly I don't know if it was always for kids or is there meant to be some appeal for adults outside of Celebrity Cameos (which just seems lazy), it was just weird, all the jokes were pretty much the same (and very basic) and the stuff I watched spanned 30 years. Much like Laugh-Track-Sitcoms, I just think the Muppets style of humor doesn't work in this day and age.Is it one of those deals where The Muppets now only appeal to fans who remember them far too fondly? Is it time to lock up The Muppets for good, or reduce them down to annual TV specials and cameos?

I said it before but the Muppets aren't crass, mean spirited or cynical. Maybe they aren't going to appeal to today's world, but I'm glad we have them

AMEN. The "torturous" aspects of that film are overstated.
