Big Star but very few BO successes : The Bermuda Triangle of Hollywood

I think it is funny how some big stars have a prestige attached to them yet they are barely in any hit in the latest years of thei carrer.

 

Offenders in the actress field :

 

Nicole Kidman : ten years without a hit.

Keira Knightley : no hit since she left Pirates

Kate Winslet : Since Titanic, she made all those Oscar bait movies that GA don't know about, no wonder she agreed to do the the Divergent part.

Charlize Theron : she had Hancok ( mostly a Will Smith Slam dunk) and Snow White and that s it.

Sharon Stone : Total Recall, Basic Instinct and Casino and that s it.

 

 

Guys ( no stars but kinda work a lot) :

 

Colin Farrell : this guy shoots 3 movies a year and he is still not a draw.

Taylor Kitsch : Lone Survivor maybe and a magical 2012 year.

 

 

It seems a be more of  an actress phenomenon though, all female stars that I have listed have a contract with a famous luxury brand which allow them to remain stars in the eyes of GA. But hey don't see their films.

Julia Roberts falls into this category now as well. She had a great run in the late 90s - early 2000s, but has been off the radar since.

Not that it'll help with her falling box office though.

Box Office has nothing to do with talent though. There are plenty of male actors who are big stars in name only these days. Travolta, Schwarzenegger, Spacey and the list goes on.

George Clooney, by a mile.  He had a bit part in Gravity, it's Bullock's movie.  I don't count it but besides the Oceans 11/12/13, he does not have an impressive resume.  Yet, he's one of Hollywood's leading men.

Perfect Storm (2000) and Batman and Robin (1997) are the only $100m earners (again, not counting Gravity and the ensemble Ocean movies).  That's it.

That is true. Stars like Schwarzenegger still use their glory days as an excuse to get major parts.

 

If your in one hit, you can only live on that one hit for so long before Hollywood gets tired of you (Megan Fox etc).

Most people getting listed here are Oscar winners/multiple nominees, kinda like, they proved they deserve their spot in public's memory. I would agree with the types of Megan Fox but Theron, Kidman etc earned it and they do get occasional hits still

Well if you want to get technical about the % of hits they are in you would then just say someone like Samuel L. Jackson as that guy is in what? 500 films a year?

I kind of like Kidman even if she is difficult to defend.

 

Her early career from the late 80s through the 90s was kind of lame. Aside from Dead Calm and To Die For she always played a barbie doll with no personality in mediocre movies.

 

Her career since 2004-2005 when she started to look difigured from plastic surgeries was a complete disaster. 

 

But in those 6 years between 1999-2005 she was absolutely amazing. Eyes Wide Shut, Moulin Rouge, The Others, The Hours, Dogville, Cold Mountain, Birth. She gets a lifetime pass from me just for those years.

Haha. SLJ, Deniro, and Morgan Freeman are in a movie every week of any given year it seems. DeNiro has slowed down a bit but he was very active. Dont blame them. It keeps them young, they enjoy it, go for it
