The high-octane action sequel starring Tom Cruise introduced itself to the foreign circuit on Dec. 14, and opened well over the Christmas holiday in Brazil and Mexico (bowing to $2.75 million and $2.5 million, respectively, ranking dominant No. 1 in each). First place finishes in second weekends in Japan and in South Korea were also recorded with market cumes reaching $24 million and $24.5 million, respectively.

Paramount said Monday that Ghost Protocol’s foreign gross total stands at $140 million. The film is expected to roll up $201 million in total box office by year’s end.

As of Friday, the film’s cume was $105 million. Ghost Protocol is one of several titles that have propelled Paramount to estimated 2011 offshore box office of $3.19 billion – a whopping 60% increase from 2010’s comparable figure, “setting both a record for our studio and indeed any studio,” said Anthony Marcoly, Paramount Pictures International – Theatrical president.

It really sucks Hugo had a huge production budget, if it was only made for 80-100m, it could have a chance on earning or at least not totally bombing at all. 170m is really insance for a material which is really not the blockbuster type

They should just wait on Star Trek 2 and release it the same year as Transformers 4, then they will have a good year that time.I'm not expecting gigantic numbers, but the trailer for GI Joe showed during MI4, and that got more buzz than the Avengers trailer. Don't count that one out. Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis are in it, and people do like them.

It's real easy to break the record when all you collect is an 8% distribution fee from Dreamworks and Marvel. That's 4 big movies you won't get much from.

Exactly. Paramount is mostly a distributor and sometimes a co-producer. Therefore all those fancy numbers don't tell us anything about profitability and so on.

Cloverfield 2 been in development for years already...sounds like a new project...or thats what they want you to think

Well the only reason I say this is because of Matt Reeves as Producer. He could be taking a back seat in helming this.
