The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 OS Thread | 415m OS, 751m WW

Recommended Posts

Top intl openings for #Mockingjay: UK $19.9M, Germany $13.7M, Mexico $12.1M, Russia $11.1M, France $10.5M, Australia $10.1M.

THat's weird for Russia, Juni said 9.8m...

I'm really shocked : it's not beyond $10m OW in Brazil, that's disappointing :o

On the other end Mexico is huge : CF got 9.2m OW!

UK and Germany had a slight growth over CF.

The problem with most countries is that the exchange rate is in favour of the dollar this year compared to last year:

USD-to-EUR was 1:0.74 last year. This year it is 1:0.8

USD-to-RUS ROUBLE was 1:33 last year. This year it is 1:46.

USD-to-BRZ REAL was 1:2.31 last year. This year it is 1:2.51.

The British Pound and Mexican Peso remain relatively unchanged.

So MJ1 actually did a lot better in local currency than the dollar values indicate.

International estimates are rolling in from the studios today with Lionsgate roaring over Mockingjay’s $152M overseas weekend. That number beats 2013’s Catching Fire by 4%, on a dollar basis. Domestically, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I earned an estimated $123M, giving the first finale installment a worldwide cume of $275M after five days in release. The Francis Lawrence-helmed actioner started its offshore career in nine markets on Wednesday, expanding to 85 over the course of the weekend. It played on 17,000 in the biggest day-and-date release of the year, and Lionsgate’s widest release ever. After two days, it was estimated to be tracking about 5% ahead of Catching Fire which rolled out in an initial 63 markets last year and earned $146M in its first frame.

Only 4%? Are they accounting for the fact that China didn't open?

It's not that surprising. When you think that China didn't open this time around it's quite a healthy increase. The problem is it seems to be more frontloaded. In most markets it was way ahead of CF on OD, but at the end of the weekend it landed in pretty much the same are. Let's hope the initial boost will keep it ahead. The WOM doesn't seem particularly good. Or at least here. I'm guessing it's like that everywhere by some degree.

Yes, they have accounted for that.

CF released one week later in France and Italy and a couple more markets, For MJ1 they are opening this week itself. So that compensates for Chinese opening.
