I even think it should worry (because, you know, movies can "worry" :P) about 22JS almost as much as Dragon. Dat Tatum appeal.

Agreed. If 22JS can avoid the comedy sequel curse then I can see it doing Ted-like numbers (200m+) albeit with a larger opening and weaker legs.

forget legs of dofp. they reinvigorated a franchise in the 7th film and wiped out the fatigue. what would sony not do to have that with spidey. dofp is a godzilla size success. also that os Posted Image

Maleficent DOM projections of OD

Now You See Me: 284M

Oz, the Great and Powerful: 236M

Jack the Giant Slayer: 205M

Alice in Wonderland: 199M

Snow White and the Huntsman: 184M

After Earth: 149M

For the sake of my sanity and BSG, I hope it follows After Earth

Same here as I put 150M for it in BSG.

Now that the action pornfest has started I remember why I didn't like this movie, it's all destruction from the second half onward and not enough build up to make the action meaningful or worth caring about.

Is it weird that I'm kinda wondering iJack's opinion on DOFP? I mean, there's no way he could hate it despite him saying it'd be awful; the movie was too good

It's iJack. Regardless of his true opinion, he'd keep saying it's worse than TASM2.

Disappointed to see DOFP not doing good at the box office. People should go see this movie. Great movie. Rebooted the X-Men series, and Brian Singer tried to make amends to as many wrongs as he could.

Just the cameos of Cylcops, Jean Grey, and Rogue brought huge cheers at my screening! Glad they rectified the stupid deaths in Last Stand.

700 WW is not good? What did you expect?

It wasn't just the final days, it was months. Those trailers were genuinely great. Looked like it might be the best movie of the summer. Buzz was huge. All of that led to its breakout OW.

It's fallacious to now claim that the performance is fine because "most franchise pics perform like this". Most sequels do, franchise starters don't often break out with enormous OWs and follow that up with really pathetic legs

It's Man of Steel redux, basically. Except Man of Steel held better, against harsher competition

I'm not saying every franchise. I'm saying certain franchises seem to be inherently front loaded because of their immediate appeal to a certain core demo and an inability to expand beyond that. GODZILLA seems like it falls squarely in that category (along with X-MEN).

Yes, the marketing for GODZILLA was great. But even despite all that, look at the earlier predictions from all of us. Most people were pegging it in the 160-200 range if it was good. So.... collectively we were right! Some of us (myself included) got too caught up in the late hype and then expanded our predictions accordingly, but that's our fault.

There are huge Maleficent fans... she is Disney's iconic villain.

And that's why I disagree with Tele that there is good WOM among Malefcent fans... they hate what they did with her.

Well, I'll amend my statement for just Jolie fans (although from some of the comments I've read it seems like some of Maleficent's fans adore the movie too).

Only if he attempts the cajun accent. I'll channel my inner Shay and go see it a dozen times if he does

Now that Days of Future Past allows for some resets, please bring back will.i.am. and porcupine dude.
