bapi
EoT never really had a chance with 175M production budget.

a2k
Was referring to Spider-Man 1 not ASM. Ok. Though I wouldn't use SM1 for comparisons to EoT either. That was a very different movie in a very different era when it comes to movie legs. Edited June 8, 2014 by a2k

bapi
Congrats to Maleficent. Honestly I hate all these shitty CG prequels like Alice or Oz but fair play... women and kids like them.
Quigley
I really am not understand these comparisons between the 2nd weekend drops of Godzilla, X-Men and TASM2 to Maleficent. Shouldn't Maleficent be compared to Oz? Oz opened in March, not June, and it opened during a period of spring holidays. I am not sure how valid the comparison would be. The most accurate comparison is Snow White and the Huntsman. That movie dropped 59% on its second weekend, so Maleficent did way better (52%). Comparison to other high-profile summer movies seems relevant as well.

Dementeleus
But isn't Edge of Tom trying to be a brainy, crossword puzzle for adults? Isn't the bulk of the audience over 25? If it is trying to be the "smart" summer movie for brainy adults, then adults don't really care much about special effects or video game sequences, so it is fine to cut the budget and make it smaller. Adults going for story and brains won't care if it is smaller. You're basically asking for an entirely different movie. Which is fine, but why bother, at that point? Just make another movie.

dashrendar44
Why do people simply wave their hands and ask why didn't WB make EDGE for 100m? You knock 40% of the budget away, you get a correspondingly smaller movie. Because the movie needed that scale, that's part of the appeal on paper The Starship Troopers meets Saving Private Ryan in a timeloop. Or did you really want a movie with 5 soldiers battling in a desert void for 2 hours cutting away from the actual action like Gareth Edwards would do to save money? You cut the budget, you just botch the scope and production value's potential of the movie. It's like asking why Avatar was not made with a 100M budget. Those practical suits must have cost quite a lot to build and manipulate on set because they tailored one for leading actors and supporting roles alike. lab276
Because Stannis is the one true king It is not a question of wanting. The throne is mine, as Robert's heir. That is law. After me, it must pass to my daughter, unless Selyse should finally give me a son. I am king. Wants do not enter into it. I have a duty to my daughter. To the realm. Even to Robert. He loved me but little, I know, yet he was my brother. The Lannister woman gave him horns and made a motley fool of him. She may have murdered him as well, as she murdered Jon Arryn and Ned Stark. For such crimes there must be justice. Starting with Cersei and her abominations. But only starting. I mean to scour that court clean. As Robert should have done after the Trident. I don't know what happens (not a book reader), but based on that, he's dead.
Quigley
Is the 93m correct? With 93m it should be higher than 208m.... Edit: 93m WW...including the US. WW weekend: $93M NA weekend: $33.5M Outside NA weekend: $59.5M Opening weekend outside NA was $106.1M (updated number from ScreenDaily), so it had a 1 - (59.5 / 106.1) = -43% drop Since it only opened in a few minor markets this weekend, that drop is impressive.
