It's not that the movie star is dead, but the infallible movie star whose presence alone would power just any movie doesn't exist anymore. Then again, I wonder if it ever did. I think that Tom Cruise in the eighties and nineties is as close as you get to that. Angelina and Maleficent is one of those rare perfectly aligned star/character combos. Then add the enduring popularity of the character, a villain from a film that adjusts to over 500 million at the box office, and the fantastic marketing effort from Disney, and you have a hit.

I still have a hard time believing that Green Lantern was directed by the same guy that successfully rejuvenated the Bond franchise not once, but twice.

Seriously. GL and Casino Royale have the same director. Makes no sense.

Green Lantern was actually made by the studio apparently. WB just wanted everything to go the way they sought.

The whole movie star thing really goes back to the 30s-50s era where studios would lock actors into multi-picture contracts. It barely mattered what the movie was half the time, as long as they were in it.

Didn't they take it away from him in the editing room? Even had Jeff Robinov stepping in to make changes?

From what I read, his original plan was considerably more interesting. I've heard the director's cut improves things slightly.

There's no director cut though. There's just an extended version with 8ms of additional footage including a different opening scene, set in the past.

Will never see the real GL movie we wanted, because those executives at WB went and messed it up, and now they're just using the excuse of GL to say why they aren't willing to make DC movies that Batman or Superman movies.

Sigh!

Shame Ijack is banned. He could have looked into that in a legal perspective.

Yes and it endured through the years because you just didn't see movie stars everyday. They were alluring and mysterious. The only information you got was from magazines and they only time you saw them was in their movies. Now everything is everywhere. The internet broke it all wide open. Nothing left to see.

Dragon 2 was even better the second time. Cried a ton moreControversial opinion time: both LEGO and Dragon 2 are miles better than Frozen. And with that I'll leave this thread until Fault is done. Enjoy the flame war!
