Sex Tape bombed because there wasn't anything funny about it. A couple accidentaly leaking their sex tape opens up lots of comedic possibilities, but it didn't show any good material in the advertising.

The premise got less to do with it than how the material exploits the premise with wit without running dry few scenes in and its execution (it seems that none of the situations in which the protagonists are put into are funny, that's too bad for a comedy).
