Blackout
PotA jumped 87% against 4 wide openers, so it is not impossible. Maybe something likeFRI 14SAT 19SUN 14.5Total 47.5Turtles OW will be far higher than those 4 openers that RotPotA held against. Not to mention last Thurs' huge previews. It's not impossible, sure, but it is unlikely IMO.
kdx125
I looked up and see OS ain't doing well for GOTG. Those freaking foreigners! Take into account that it's only been released in 26 territories so far, and none of those 26 are China.
baumer
Considering its huge Tuesday, yes. It wasn't huge. It was normal. Just like Wed's drop is normal.
Gopher
I feel like 26% is actually pretty solid in this summer, but we'll see how everything else held up first.
baumer
PotA jumped 87% against 4 wide openers, so it is not impossible. Maybe something likeFRI 14SAT 19SUN 14.5Total 47.5 Not saying it can't happen but Apes had 3 openers to deal with not 4 (unless you want to count The Help opening on Weds) and none of them were going to be big openers. Final Destination 5 was maybe it's biggest competition. Turtles is on pace right now to open to about 45-50 mill and it is direct competition for GOTG so expecting an 87% increase, imo, is unrealistic. Don't you think that the dailies at this point are expected? Tomorrow it will drop about 8-12% and that too will be normal. The legs will show this weekend and even moreso next weekend. That might be true, but I heard that the Chinese release date is not good.
#ED
Normal Summer drop. Not sure if it's fair to compare to the rest of the 90M openers when most opened in May other than TF4.

Edit: Didn't realize you meant Rise not Dawn. Edited August 7, 2014 by JohnnyGossamer

JohnnyGossamer
I think he means Turtles will open bigger than any one of those films, not combined. Well, they are vying for the same audience. But, even still, Dawn jumped 79% on its second Friday. I could see Guardians realistically jumping 70%+ on its second Friday.

KATCH-2D2
I looked up and see OS ain't doing well for GOTG. Those freaking foreigners! What are you talking about? It has only opened in a handful of markets and in Russia it opened above CAP2 and THOR2. It's going to do very well in Australia this weekend. The only market it's been underperformed is SK and there's a good reason why.

JohnnyGossamer
Why? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3541262/?ref_=nv_sr_1 This movie's breaking all kind of records in SK. I think it's about to set the admissions record. A ridiculous percentage of the nation has seen this flick. http://boxofficemojo.com/intl/korea/?yr=2014&wk=31&p=.htm Edited August 7, 2014 by JohnnyGossamer

chasmmi
It starred Choi Min Sik. Man, I gotta see this. Yep and adjusted for average ticket price and population of NA Domestic Box Office it has made the equivalent of over $450M in 9 days (and only 1 weekend in those 9 days)
