I have no idea. I just assumed the movie would have an open ending because it was supposed to be a franchise starter.

I guess there are 4 books your question about the ending

It is not really an open ending if want to know CJohn scroll down

The main Character Jonas escape with a baby which will be the next receiver of memory. Jonas leaves the community and he gets past a barrier that government controls and when cross all the memories of the past, emotions, color go back the community. The last scene is Jonas finds a cabin and people are signing Christmas music. Which is the first thing the giver showed him.

This is the new Golden Compass or John Carter. Too bad.

Not really. The follow-ups aren't regarded even nearly as highly, so it was going to take an absolutely unfathomable over-performance from this film to make any of those ones happen.

I may see it then.

That word isn't in my dictionary, so I am not sure, do you mean it does o.K.l in Russia or that it is doing badly?=> just in case....OW Exp.2 in Russia = $8.1m, Exp.3 OW = $3.8m

Floundering means struggling, doing badly. Like a fish out of the water, flopping around on the ground. It's sometimes mixed up with foundering. To founder means to sink - a boat filling up with water and sinking.Either way, that OW comparison is exactly what I was talking about. The movie is doing badly in Russia so far. Edited by TServo2049

I actually wrote an adaptation of The Giver in our little forum game of Create a Year of Movies (CAYOM). It appeared in the Top 5 of pretty much everyone's lists in that game year, and actually won Best Picture at that year's Oscars. :D

It's hilarious to see my fake adaptation is better than the real-life movie.  :P

Thank you a lot.

I think I learned the term 'founder / foundering' in connection with a bad leg / foot of a horse.

What's with the very low drop for HTTYD2? Has its dollar run already started? It lost 150 theaters, when a film's dollar run starts doesn't it usually ADD theaters, and increase from the previous weekend. My Fandango does show it playing in some discount venues, but not others - do they all not get a film at the same time?

'Roaring Currents' is unstoppable  Also good to see 'Into the Storm' making decent money OS. It only opened in Russia and France from the big markets, right?

I was gonna say no, The Giver is a classic novel and sequelizing it would be crass and pointless.

But then I thought better of it, googled it and of course there is. Four books total

I'm sure the book is good, especially since to came out 20 years ago, but the subject imo seems pointless and tedious now.

Germany/Austria... ~ 21./22. August according to IMDb

UK / Ireland, Japan 22. August and some other countries even later on

He seems like a really nice person. Most people in Hollywood don't respond to any of their followers.  ;)

In other CAYOM fun, Philip Noyce (director of real-life Giver) has been directing new Jack Ryan movies with Chris Pine in the role there which consistently win Best Adapted Screenplay

Kenneth Branagh is crying somewhere
