John Lithgow has been cast opposite Ben Affleck in The Accountant, the action thriller that Gavin O’Connor is directing for Warner Bros.

Based on an original script by Bill Dubuque, “The Accountant” centers on a mild-mannered accountant who moonlights as a lethal assassin.

Lithgow has been set to play Lamar Black, a tech magnate in the robotics field who hires Affleck’s character to look at his company’s accounting given some recent irregularities.

It's either a failed Oscar bait movie they're dumping on January or an Oscar film that will get December qualifying run and hopes to get awards buzz by the time it expands nationwide in January

This doesn't have to be a failed Oscar-bait movie. This could easily be a mid-budget thriller , comedy or action movie. January-February is the perfect time to release such studio movies.

Yeah, this is a failed Oscar bait movie.

It's neither failed Oscar bait, nor is it a January dump movie, it is a "You agreed to be Batman, so we will green light any movie you want to appear in for life" movie. :P
