Fullbuster
Don't leave me alone here, there are probably many things to say about the world's second biggest market
IndustriousAngel
the main thing to say about "the world's second biggest market" is that it's a composite of many smaller markets, with different demographics, languages, opening dates, distributors and even currencies. So while it's nice to have a thread about the EU as a whole, the single countries have more interesting threads - among them UK, France and Germany which are very strong markets on their own.

Agree And different weather conditions,... what was especially this year in some weeks seemingly a big problem. Or different local movies that run at the same time or not 'against' ehatever foreign movie ....

Well, that's true but still I think it's interesting to know how big it is when you add all the grosses from the different countries ^^
Aristis
I think that should be posted here: http://deadline.com/2016/05/european-box-office-2015-record-hollywood-star-wars-force-awakens-1201748862/ Biggest Movies in 2015: Star Wars: The Force Awakens (39.8M admissions), Minions (39.5M), Spectre (37.9M), Jurassic World (30.4M) But should't SW have made more? Or is this just until the end of December? Probably that's the case...

So it should have had more admissions.
Cynosure
Just to put things in perspective, Titanic did 39M admissions in France + the UK alone. That's how far TFA and the rest are. Edited May 4, 2016 by Cynosure
Agafin
Is Titanic the only movie to have sold 100M+ tickets here? I know Avatar sold 70M while both Potter and FOTR were around 60m. Jungle Book maybe? Or Gone With the Wind?
Aristis
This Thread is European Union, but I think the article is about Europe as a whole. I made some calculations because I was interested in number. For the countries with + I don't have accurate admission data. Germany 9M France 10.4M GB 11M+ Italy 3.4M Spain 3M+ Poland 3M Sweden, Hungary 1.2M Netherlands 1M+ Belgium 900k+ Austria, Ukraine 800k Switzerland, Denmark 700k Ireland 600k+ Finland, Norwegen, Czech Republic, Romania 600k Others about 1-1.5M I'm not sure with Russia though. The article seems to exclude it. That's already more than 50M so it should be only the number till the end of the year. (Data from http://www.insidekino.de/BO/2015MAE.htm)

The 3 million Spanish figure is by 2015 ending. The total admissions here is already around 5 million. Edited May 5, 2016 by peludo
