Empire
Zimmer's score on Pirates is pretty much better than everything Williams ever did in terms of greatness. It just gets stuck in your head.It is not better than these pieces: http://youtu.be/D8zlUUrFK-M http://youtu.be/qzVBqBosf5w They are hundreds of more pieces of score I could link to of Williams work, but those are my top 2. He is the greatest of all-time.

It just gets stuck in your head. Zimmer's done a bunch of stuff I like a lot, but come on. He's influenced the direction of 21st century blockbuster music without a doubt, but that influence isn't that good a thing, since for example it's led to the MCU's policy for generic Zimmer knockoffs for most of its films. There's probably a dozen Williams scores at least I would put before the first Zimmer one.
Plain Old Tele
This is derailing the derailing, but one of the things that I think is genius about the Williams/Lucas/Spielberg collaborations is they manage to have sustained action sequences that also work comedically (not merely comedically, but in subtle ways that are integrated into the action more than, say, Johnny Depp mugging and mincing and then running off)... and the music carries these sequences. Listen to the Venice boat chase in LAST CRUSADE, or the motorcycle scherzo (same movie).
Goffe
Maybe Nolan is also as tone-deaf as he is colorblind... that doesn't stop him from making great looking movies.

There's definitely several comedic gags worked in here and there (from one-liners to facial reactions to physical sprawling) and the music syncing up with the action is superb. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVdRfnLPypE Edited February 19, 2015 by 4815162342

James
I mean, are you people actually listening to this? It makes your heart run with 100 miles per hour. Those drums! Man. Goffe
All of Williams work only works in the movie he wrote the scores for. I don't disagree with that, what I'm disagreeing with is the whole "TDK trilogy is up there with the most generic action scores of the past 20 years" statement. that is personal bias 101, it's like saying that POTC is better than all Williams works. It's just wrong. Edited February 19, 2015 by Goffe

Avatree
James, you're posting more than just the main theme of PotC. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make - I thought you were talking about Hans Zimmer?

Apologies, I thought it was all 4 that were done by Klaus Badelt, didn't realise he only did the first one and Zimmer did 2, 3 and 4. "Hans Zimmer" is really a collective of 27 aliens from the planet Bwahm.* * this is actually not that far off the truth.
