Weekend Thread | Weekend Estimates: PP2 - $70.3M, MM:FR - $45.5M, TA2 - $38.84M

Yeah sorry. How about:

Mad Max has taken all of Avengers' thunder and is seen as the event of May, that's why its OW will be slightly above Avengers' third weekend

The only reason that the OW is slightly above Avengers' third weekend is because of Charlize's short hair. What was she thinking. Could have done 208 mil without it

In terms of box office (expectedly massive but far from breaking any box office records or creating any new ones) and buzz/event-status (meh reviews, so-so word of mouth), AOU's has been an incredibly boring run. Everyone knew it was going to be a billion-dollar grosser, but it's one of those billion-dollar films that didn't become "the movie that everyone is talking about"... that did happen to the first film, though. Having said that, how many studios would KILL to have a billion-dollar-grossing non-event movie? All of them.

It's basically like what happened with the Hobbit trilogy. The 3 movies made almost 3B combined WW. It's just that the movies never became the big events that the LOTR movies were.

I don't want to say that Mad Max number is small because it isn't by any means. But when placed next to that 27.8 number for PP2 you have to admit it LOOKS small.

But on its own its a great result. I didn't love the movie (I'd honesty probably give it a 5/10 at the moment but I have to see it again to be sure).

But that short hair removes her femininity and allows her to focus on THE MISSION

I don't think it is. This thing had a monstrous OW, it was a big event. It's just not as good or as well-liked as the first, so its legs are mediocre

Yeah, looking at a 445-455M finish depending on the final holds. About a 2.32-2.36 multiplier, Thor 2 or IM3 multiplier basically.

At least it gave us one of the most memorable weekend threads when most people thought (or basically were convinced) for a good 10 hours or so that it would open to 100M OD.

It was pretty much what I thought Mad Max would do opening weekend, but was hoping these great reviews would give it a boost. really hope it does enough for a sequel.
