Since when did we start adjusting for how much studios take? It's always been full production budget to full OW comparisons.

Who ever did that? lmao

I'm literally saying Universal is gonna make back the budget half of their investment in 3 days domestically alone.

JP was fresh and had the cgi factor, no one had seen things like that before, living and breathing dinosaurs. If it released today, it wouldn't have that factor, we have cgi films coming out of our buttholes today.

If it was the first realistic movie about dinosaurs it would still be an enormous deal. In the 22 years since, there have been very few live action dinosaur movies so to say it wouldn't be possible today seems a bit too dismissive. Hell, even with the CGI you talk about it is still a massive deal judging by the numbers we are seeing from a sequel to a sequel to a sequel.

Goldblum and Dern and Neil with Starlord and Clair.

Internet explodes.

This really should be the way to go. They are going to lose the novelty factor anyway, so bringing those characters back would ensure that it still is a big event.

Heres an article for Noctis and everyone else wanting scietific accuracy. Boy these dinosaurs wouldve looked completely ridiculous.

Even though I'm on record in wanting to see more accurate dinos, I thought the scientist in JW explained that genetically altered all of 'em a bit so they'd look more appealing. Edited by JohnnyGossamer

And all I'm saying is it'll be over or very close to 150m in only 2 days, not 3.

JW is making what its making because of the love for the franchise. Do you really think it would be having a 200mil opening weekend if it was an orig film about dinosaurs and not a part of the JP series?.

There are factors in every films gross. JP had the cgi dino's that no one had seen before, JW has the love of the franchise behind it.

Like Baumer said, different eras. These days you can just download a pirate copy within a matter of days (or hours sometimes), DVD's coming out like 3 months after the film opens, we didn't even have DVD's in 1993 and we had to wait like a year before the film would come to VHS.

Home cinema, streaming software, tablets, phones, the list goes on.

You know this is one thing I don't get about studios these days. Home video sales are way lower than they were in the 90s and 00's, yet they are much quicker to rush their films out on home formats in 3-4 months. You'd figure with most people opting to wait until they can stream the film on Netflix or something rather than pay $20-30 for the dvd or bluray, studios would be trying to milk the theatrical releases for every dime they can. A great recent example is Frozen. It ended up being a smash hit and had incredible legs. It was still playing in well over 1000 theaters at the time of its home release, and made $2 million the weekend before. Yet, the film was released and definitely lost a few million bucks thanks to that.

Tl;dr with nobody buying DVDs and blurays like they used to, I don't get why studios don't make more of an effort to hold off on the home release for a while and find ways to extend theatrical life.

Unbelievable.

Absolutely unbelievable.

My hats off to Universal. First they scored a MEGA HIT with Furious 7, beating even the wildest expectations.

Now they are blowing everyone's minds here with Jurassic World. This now makes TWO films in the last couple of months that have absolutely stolen Age of Ultron's thunder. Age of Ultron domestically will finish just barely above The Dark Knight Rises, which is incredible when you think about it, given the handicap TDKR's run had and AOU does not.

Back on topic, great work by Universal this year countering the Disney/Marvel monster. Real, viable, strong competition is always great. Monopolies, or flimsy competition is not.

In movies and theme parks, Universal is stealing Disney's thunder. Congrats to them for making things people want to see.

Didn't they have a comment about this in the movie? That the dinosaurs weren't natural and they made them how the public wanted to see them.

Btw it's kind of crazy how nothing came close to Avengers' OW for three years and then we got two within a few weeks of each other

Just goes to show you, people go on about trends and BO health but what matters most is appealing movies. Make appealing movies, audiences will come
