Weekend Estimates: JW: 102 IO 91...RTH: Sun JW 38.3 | IO 25.3 with possible upsides PG 287, possible 107M for JW weekend

Recommended Posts

That Saturday is just awesome given the competition it was facing this weekend. Great performance for both movies. We could end up with a couple records each for both Disney/Pixar and Universal that they can be very proud of.

Pixar - Biggest original opening

Pixar - Biggest #2 opening (breaking a 11 year old record)

Universal - Biggest second weekend

Universal - $400m in 10 freaking days

The competition was overrated. JW is a PG-13 film that no responsible parent should be taking their little kids to.

The people want bigger things. So that is what you give to them.

JW Spoiler:

The fact that this happens in a way where JW is critical of corporate culture and the idea that "audiences want bigger" makes it one of the most thematically hypocritical blockbusters of the century.

At least San Andreas never tried to be profound and be anything other than a dumb epic disaster flick.

Not daring to be original or take any risks isn't a positive.

That's why San Andreas was so profoundly boring.

Ummm...I was 7 when I saw JP1 and that movie is by all accounts scarier than JP4. Parents today are even more lenient than they were in 1993. Just look at all the violent video games and stuff on television that little kids watch today. JP4 is playing to all demographics. You don't reach $400m in 10 days without everyone contributing in big numbers.
