They did it because it was Labor Day, I doubt anyone cared at that point whether it would finish with 619m or 621m. 

Oh but they still increased their movies screens eventually, same with other studios like Legendary or Warner bros. I'm just wondering if Universal would do the same to JW cause they didn't do it to Furious 7.

You're right, I don't think Universal would resort to such tactics for publicity or bragging rights. But one can hope that they'd make an exception for their flagship franchise - especially if it gets really close to Titanic.

JW just did $7.47 million on its third (non-holiday) Tuesday and has the biggest 19 day total ever by a $46 million margin, I highly doubt universal is concerned with how to inflate the late run numbers.

600m is truly becoming the new 400m. When Spider-Man broke 400m wayyyy back in 2002, there were 32 other films that adjusted to 400m+. Now as JW is inevitably going to pass 600m, there are 102 films over 400m ADJ. 29 films(30 once JW gets there) over 600m ADJ. Add in 3-D upcharges and 400m in 2002 is that much more impressive.

I don't see how Ant Man does near 300 when Minions is near locked for that and MI5 is probably doing around 250. We've already had a huge summer, it can only support so many huge hits. I think Ant Man is headed to be one of the casualties this year, ala Ted.
