We have had one every year since 2007 at least, maybe a pre-determined breakout or an out of nowhere one - Simpsons movie, The Dark Knight, Harry Potter, Inception, Harry Potter/Captain America, The Dark Knight Rises, The Conjuring, GOTG/TMNT. 2006 was the last completely dead July and August post POTC2.

Talladega Knights.

Guess Universal did not push for Minions to be in IMAX.

I am not sure why Minions would make more money in IMAX then T5's 2nd weekend. Edited by CJohn

Sarcasm right?

No, not really. Minions is a family movie. T5 is a special effects action movie driven. Minions would make less money on those IMAX screens than what T5 did on that weekend.

Sorry, but this post is just flat out wrong. Minions was playing on 5 of 6 Santikos IMAX equivalent called AVX (85 foot wide screens) at the Palladium in West Houston. Those 5 screens were jam-packed on opening weekend from what I saw on the reserved seating. The prices were $12-13, a 30-40% premium and people were gladly paying for it.

So Minions cost 75 mill to make and has made 650 mill WW so far.

Why are people cramping on it again? These movies cost about half of what other animated films cost and they generally make either a little bit more for a little bit less than most of the other Pixar films especially.

AntMan finished $8m below The Village adjusted just for some perspective. Will obv have much better legs but the opening is meh honestly maybe decent if you want to argue but nothing more.

Village had a very nice OW as M. Night was coming off Signs being a mega earner.
