By this point Titanic's run was about halfway done? My Gawd.

:o

Titanic did over $100m after it's 125th day = The limit of days The-Numbers shows in their comparisons. I am guessing as normally no real interesting datas occur after that long a time. Beside Titanic...

Oh, we non US users are not people :P ?

I do understand the fixation of some users still on dom, but business-wise no one really looks only into NA's numbers

I do not think 25% people stayed away, I think a lot of people did a lot less re-peat viewings and people stayed away

Yeah I saw Avengers over 4 or 5 weekends during that summer. Age of Ultron I only saw 3 times...but all during the opening weekend and never again.

The title here says Ant-man made 16.1 but BOM says 12.6. Who goofed? (That moment when you realize you have no faith in BOM anymore to be the most accurate site for numbers)

Ahh, that was meant

Ant-Man $12,619,000 (It was estimated for $12.4m or so, I am guessing a 'changing details typo' by CJohn Someone / he (?) corrected it

A fun would-be showdown right now is Inside Out vs Minions. $284 and 287 million respective grosses at the end of weekend 4.

Inside Out is creaming Minions domestically.

It was #1 for 15 weekends straight. All things Titanic were just everywhere for months and months and caused a huge backlash that wouldn't have been quite so bad if it had stayed a July 4th weekend movie (more competition, lower box office, maybe $400-450M, it only wins tech awards but not double-digit Oscars).

A nice total so far for Amy—another win for A24.

Looks like Minions will end up out grossing TS3 WW by the end of its run, Frozen may be a bit too far

From BO Global Report:

Minions opened well in both Japan and South Korea this week, grabbing $39.1 million (-14%) across 62 territories for an overseas total of $567.3 million and a worldwide total of $854.6 million. Minions is now the 9th highest-grossing animated film of all-time worldwide passing Shrek The Third ($799M). Next up is Ice Age: Continental Drift ($880M). Japan opened at #2 with $6 million behind local manga adaptation Attack on Titan. South Korea opened at #3 with $6.4 million behind MI5 and Assassination. That opening is 5 times bigger than Despicable Me 2’s opening weekend. Germany ($49M cume) and Argentina ($33.8M cume) both held onto #1 for the fifth consecutive weekend, and Minions is the highest-grossing film of all-time (in USD) in Argentina. Five more territories to release: Slovenia (August 13), Italy (August 27), Turkey (September 4), China (September 13), and Greece (September 24).

Titanic would have grossed similar even if it had released on a Tuesday in February.

The Top 10 grossed an estimated $136.2 million, which was down nearly $30 million from the same weekend last year when Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy won the weekend with $94.3 million.

Curious when we will get the next over $1b in July

All those acronyms confuse me (be aware, we often get other titles in foreign countries anyway):

what stands TS 3 for?

IO will pass Minions by Friday and be ahead by likely $6M by Sunday. Minions looks like it will hit 300M next Sunday an IO had 306M at that point.

More interesting in IO and F& and AS.

Maybe so. It's just weird to picture it being out the same time as Men In Black and a summer movie, as it was originally planned. A big part of the movie itself is how they're freezing in the water, and it was huge in the winter, kind of like how Frozen was a big hit as there were record blizzards (though it was probably 75 degrees the whole time in LA, so...). Maybe being a summer movie might have helped Titanic even more with all those teen girl viewers who were supposedly the sole reason it made so much (I know that's not the reality).

As others have said, outside of MI5 not much to talk about this weekend. Paramount took an aggressive drop on Sunday - they definately wanted the 56M number in the papers tomorrow. With the reviews and WoM have to think 180-190M.

TG is going to have to work to get to 90M - thinking it makes that once it gets to the dollar theaters.

Also, if daily estimates hold, yesterday broke the uninterrupted streak of Inside Out and Jurassic World occupying adjacent spots on the daily charts. 43 days, but yesterday JW may have grossed less than Paper Towns (the estimates are $70,000 apart). Today, PT is estimated to make $200k more than JW.

End of an era...

That's not calendar grosses, it leaves out the money grosses by pre-July releases. Actual amount of money grossed in July is $1.18b.

I know, but it does so constantly, means it is an - to me - interesting comparison. Also will study the 'summer details' as soon as 7th September results are in. :D
