TalismanRing
It's not flopping really. The budget is like $7 million I think. $12m. It was a $7m pick up by Lionsgate. But they probably sent at least $15m on marketing. (est TV ads are around $10m as of this week)
baumer
Black Mass will do like 7-9M OW. Maze Runner will do solid 40+. Everest will be around 15-20M. Id be willing to bet that black mass does at least double what you are predicting there. My guess is closer to 20 million

terrestrial
Is there any marketing at all for it? I can't see anyone talking about it on social media. Trailers don't have many views on YT. Johnny Depp has a very poor box office history. He isn't the reason that movie is on my 'to-watch' list. Some other actors are in that I like. Haven't seen anything by that director (the one formerly attatched - Barry Levinson - to it had 5x Oscar nom. and 1x Oscar win), but the story how e.g. the US witness protection programm started is an interesting one to me. budget of Black Mass acc. Filmovie
I was sarcastic. I simply didn't think the other user's "40-50 Ow" prediction without star power against TmR2 and BM was something rational.

Warhorse
Do I spy Hayden Christensen's name? Actually, he wasn't too bad in the movie, but the best scene was the chase down with Chris Brown.

baumer
This is as good a place as any to bring this up. Terminator is going to make more than Mad Max worldwide. Yet for some reason people are praising Mad Max as being a box office hit and they are claming Terminator to be a complete failure. Both have the same kind of budget yet Terminator will probably end up making about 50 million dollars more worldwide. Strange isn't it lol
Warhorse
Plus, the WOM is FANTASTIC!! Just last week, we had people saying that Compton would be lucky to get 24 million OW, it got that opening night. Then come this week, they were all saying it would drop like a rock, and it looks to drop a pretty good 50%. I love it! I know people were writing this off simply because it's about a genre they don't care about.

Strange isn't it lol I don't know if Mad Max can really be considered a hit but the goodwill toward this last movie makes it more likely they'll continue the franchise. Terminator's kind of in the same boat as Spider Man right now. It's still making money but creatively it's in utter disarray
Warhorse
So based on the box office chart for this weekend, it pretty well looks like the F4 is officially finished if it wasn't already in it's OW.. This Bitch has all but disappeared off the radar.. That's because something like Fantastic Four is sold on it's sex appeal. The first one had freaking Jessica Alba and Chris Evans in it (who had some shirtless scenes nonetheless) and when you take out why people saw the movie, you don't get the money. Simple as that. Strange isn't it lol Most of the time, these successes are measured by domestic and not international grosses. Honestly, mid-budget and up sci-fi and fantasy films save a LOOOOOOOTTTTT of face overseas. Seventh Son, Jupiter Ascending, Terminator: Genisys, TF4, Chappie, RoboCop, Transcendence, and so many others made at least 70% of their worldwide gross overseas. Foreign auds love these genres more than we do, it seems. Hell, most of the big flop-labled films here fit into this category. Also, Mad Max had a huge handicap overseas by not being shown by friend to all big budget adventures, China. That certainly gave Terminator another advantage. Then it's just the idea that Mad Max was expected to do a lot less than Terminator. Edited August 22, 2015 by Spaghetti
