Official Weekend Estimates: Goosebumps - 23.5M; The Martian - 21.5M; Bridge of Spies - 15.4M; Crimson Peak - 12.9M (Page 1)

Quite possibly my favorite final scene in a film.

Now, I get it...some might disagree. But when I was in therapy two years ago, she told me that I had to learn to accept peoples' limitations. And I have to when it comes to films, too. I understand that many here cannot begin to appreciate the thematic power and beauty of Interstellar, and it's not their fault. It simply is not their fault for having an inferior mind to me. Almost everyone's mind is inferior to me, anyway.

Making a movie only 9 people are going to properly appreciate doesnt really count as good film making. Its more aling the lines of making an incredibly expensive inside joke.

Oh, it will do big business on OW here. The 2nd weekend drop is gonna be glorious, tho (Spectre, his power).

Stanning for this ironically. It is looks like a massive piece of shit. The final trailer has scenes with such a bad CGI I don't even know what is happening. It is gonna be glorious garbage.

I have a buddy with whom I go see action films. While we appreciate good ones (MMFR and GotG are the two recent favorites) and dislike bad ones (He still feels slightly guilty about picking TMNT to watch over GotG) our fundamental reason to get together is not just to watch action flicks, but to watch cheesy action flicks. We absolutely cannot wait for The Last Witchunter.

I read somewhere that Diesel's character is based on his Dungeons and Dragons character which is a non standard springboard to coming up with a movie narative.

You really think the general audience cares about a director's aesthetic?

Yeah?

People can scope a Bay or Burton film from a mile off yet both of those guys have had huge successes. I don't think it's much of a stretch to say that Del Toro's general style doesn't appeal to people.

You really think the general audience cares about a director's aesthetic?   Audiences know a Tim Burton or a Spielberg or a Tarantino.
In those special cases, audiences know the name and generally know what quality of movie to expect. del Toro has always been an "Internet director". I don't think his name or style has ever mattered much to the GA. Not trying to knock the guy.

Disappointing for Crimson Peak. Will likely only do 35M domestically. Bridge of Spies (should) have done better, but we all know it'll have great legs so I'm not worried about it.

While my 45M OW definitely isn't happening, I knew that this movie was going to do well. I was hoping for at least 30M, but this isn't a bad result.

Even before that though those super idiosyncratic guys had successes that weren't sold on their names or stars or what have you. They made super individual movies that people responded to and then (sometimes) wanted to see more of. I think the opposite might be happening with Del Toro. The number of 'auteurs' (take that as loosely as you wish) that audiences have embraced is tiny.
