Transformers 4, POTC4 and Spectre brings up a question: if the DOM gross continues to fall in a series does the studio care when the WW gross always crosses 1 billion?

True...but Spectre ain't being the lowest grosser, though...

The lowest grosser in the Craig-era...is still Casino Royale with $167M DOM. This one will be second to Skyfall.

In Bond's case, I wonder if they will at least consider 3D in the future for overseas markets. They are leaving a lot on the table right now. Domestic audience for Bond is old, so 3D is not a good idea in that market.

That was 9 years ago and the budget was well over $100m less.  If this movie does under $210m it will have sold less tickets than CR and even less than QOS

I'd say a drop DOM is inevitable. The only question is how big.

Well, not too big though for FF8. Probably $250-280M DOM. Depends on how much marketing it gets and WOM. But WW-wise, it could hit $1B again.

Furious 7 got advantages of being the last FF-film for Paul Walker. Which granted, FF8 won't have...but it'll still be huge.

True...but i'm only talking Un-Adjusted.

In terms of action-sequels......some movies "Not named Fast & Furious" hasn't really done huge openings. This is a very boring year for spy-sequels. MI5 couldn't hit $200M.

QoS opens to 67.5m and does only 2.5x.

But Skyfall opens higher by 21m.

Skyfall does 3.45x, but Spectre's ow goes down by 15m.

Me not get it.

I know Skyfall overperformed but after 3 years of inflation, a 15m drop in ow is surprising.

The song might be the one place where SPECTRE has the leg up on Skyfall.

Writing on the Wall is so much fucking better than Skyfall (then again I'm anti-Adele)

Goddamnit Ethan the intelligent grown-ups are talking

Marketing sucked and critical reaction was much weaker than Skyfall. Bad combination leading up to release day.

I think the big question now is.......are they gonna make a better Bond-sequel next time...when it comes out? Will they learn their mistakes from Spectre or not?

Well I assume Mendes won't be back so that's kind of a bummer. Even though SPECTRE has its issues its definitely a worthy watch and I really love the atmosphere that the two Mendes have.
