Prognosticator showdown!!

Deadpool Sunday actuals increased to $15,960,385 so nilephelan takes the crown!

Spoiler

In all fairness, Rth gave his number a full 7 hours before nile, before the evening grosses had come in. Not a fair fight exactly, but that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes...

Fox should be wondering why no X-Men movie has ever done that, if not, they are idiots

Well... I know it's a cliché to pound 'n' ponder on Foxes bad decisions but... well, clichés don't just come out of fresh air don't they.

That said, they ARE idiots and it wouldn't suprise me if a dynamic, hungry youngster successfully tries to convince some execs by some nice coloured flow carts decked with important looking diagrams that they are missing out on lots and lots of greens dom and (partial) os right now. DP2 PG-13 ftw. And the axe-min needs moa humor. Lots of humor. And snarky sarcasm. And sexual diversity.

But then again, sometimes wonders are happening. May DP be blessed with being such a wonder.

Terms of Endearment was #2 that year and adjust to nearly 300m. Yes they are being made and I do watch them. But the younger crowd doesn't as much anymore. So they are harder to green light with any kind of budget. The actors like the studios will go where the money is. I'm a capitalist, I don't blame them. But for example, I loved many movies RDJ did for 20 years. The last 8 years he's busy doing IM. God bless he's making more in each of the last 8 years than he did in the previous 20 but I would like to see him in more of the stuff he used to do. I liked The Judge. I'm saying give me another Zodiac type film, not just IM4,5  and TA3,4. It's hard to pass up 50m and take 90% less for something that wont make money today, but wouldve 30 years ago and been a blockbuster with a nice paycheck. Same goes for Johnny Depp pre PotC,  Christian bale has managed to do both. Really enjoy his under 50m films that might have been bigger in years past.

Those kinds of movies don't need a huge budget anyway so it doesn't matter if they are #2 for the year or not.   They still get made and you still get to watch them.   Maybe think of it as a positive that you don't have to sit in a theater with a "younger crowd" to watch the movies you like? ;)    You even get to enjoy discovering new actors.

Yeah, it's the cost of marketing that's killed the mid-budget adult dramas (for the most part). When you basically need 100m+ domestic to even think about breaking even, it's easy to see why the studios generally avoid them now.

And the sharp decrease of DVD and TV revenues that Netflix, PPV and Streaming have yet to make up.  These kinds of films also aren't benefiting from the huge O/S market increase unless they're Award contenders

It's funny how when a movie is new and doing really well, the estimate versus actual is like a massive difference to a film at a different point. I mean percentage-wise, Deadpool's over-performance is fairly small, but in actual terms $1.5 million is still a lot of money!! I mean imagine of it was like, "Whoops, Star Wars was underestimated by $1.5M, instead of $3.8M it actually made $5.3 million." LOL people would be like what the fuck just happened?

% wise is always much bigger for films on less theaters-for example its not that uncommon to find odd indie films that will be over or under estimated by a high number (like one time a film said estimate 10,000. Actual: 7,000)

In all fairness...Deadpools over performance last weekend was like...the opening weekend of Xmen DoFP.  Just saying.  Deadpool.

It's interesting that it has kind of been a thing frequently with Star Wars to be underestimated. Not always, but I remember when TPM was $3 million underestimated on opening weekend. And TFA was a whopping $10 million underestimated. What a joke lol.
