Is anyone surprised by this drop? They can't honestly be given that Man of Steel dropped 64.6% with intense competition from Monsters University and World War Z and a divisive reception, and nothing so far has indicated this has been enjoying a more positive reception than that did.

On the other hand, if this is looking at a 70% dip on its second weekend with virtually no competition, imagine how much it would've dropped if it had (like if Disney had moved The Jungle Book up to this weekend). No doubt at least 75%. Yikes.

4TH WRITE THRU 10:42 PM UPDATE:  Refresh for updates  Well, those poor critical reviews and mixed word of mouth for Warner Bros.’ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice are finally making a dent in the pic’s second weekend, with a revised FSS take tonight of $51M-$56M. At the low end, that’s a 69% drop. One industry estimate even has the DC superhero mashup at –oy– a 71% drop with $48M. All of this despite the fact that BvS has the weekend all to itself, without any new wide threats from the other major studios, plus the added benefit of 30% K-12 schools off, plus 9% colleges on break per ComScore.

Plan F: "Families don't see movies on Friday. It'll jump 80% on Saturday!"

There is no denying now WB has more of a problem than solution on their hands. OS & now domestic drops last few days are nearing historical levels. Enjoying this a lot.

I haven't seen much on twitter either way. Maybe I'm not clear on what you're asking.

If I'm remember correctly, for big blockbusters you used to make some searches back then. Like this:

https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&vertical=default&q=%23BatmanvSuperman&src=typd

https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&vertical=default&q=%23BatmanvSuperman%20sold%20out&src=typd

https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&vertical=default&q=%23batmanvsuperman%20theater&src=typd

https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&vertical=default&q=%23batmanvsuperman%20empty&src=typd

I see ONE comment about a sold out matinée, and that's it. Some saying about empty theaters, but basically slow movement about people actually seeing the film. Based on social media movement, around $15m is completely feasible. And with Deadline reporting it... well.

If that drop is real, Disney's gotta be wishing they'd bumped up Jungle Book a week.

On the bright side for Disney it gives Zootopia more room to hop.  Though they're opening it on the 8th in Russia, Australia, India and some smaller markets.

Universal also has to be wishing they shoved The Huntsman to the 8th.

Holy SHIT. I thought that $52.8m was a fairly reasonable estimate. This is dropping under $50m. Insanity.

Alright, Zack Snyder's Justice League is dead. Only lunatics would follow through if this thing goes under $50m first weekend. I can't even think of estimates based on a drop like this. If goes $48m or lower, that's literally the record of a drop from a first weekend to the next from a superhero film. Hell it might be the biggest drop from any film that went above $150m. Speechless.

Universal is already releasing The Boss next weekend (where it will most likely take #1 now, $20M+ should be achievable) so that wasn't going to happen.
