Daxtreme
On a random note, I just watched Casablanca and holy crap this movie is amazing. A little too much romance for my tastes but this movie is basically perfect as far as story and characters go. The scene where they sing La Marseillaise in the café, that was... shivers It would most definitely make my top 100 had I watched it earlier

People should give more chances to old films. They do not bite.

rukaio101
Christ, Avengers really brings out the whining in people here. Personally, I think the movie entirely deserves its place on this list. That Whedon managed to pull off a concept like that and pull it off so well is nothing short of miraculous. It's fantastically well balanced between the characters, does a great job of fleshing out their interactions, never feels sluggish in its pacing, is constantly entertaining and has one of the best climactic battles in recent memory. Plus it brought and cemented an entirely new concept to cinema in the Cinematic Universe (discounting minor crossovers like Alien vs Predator). It's one of the two superhero movies, along the Dark Knight, that I'd call nigh perfect. So why does it get so much more bloody complaining? Before that it's a lot of moving pieces around a board to get the plot lined up and ready to start.

It's set-up, yes, but it's well-paced, entertaining and necessary set-up. There's not a single scene in the first half I can think of that I felt went on too long or too short and it's remarkably well balanced between all the necessary characters. Plus, the humour helps keep it light and interesting. Yes, there are a lot of moving pieces about, but said pieces are entertaining and likeable characters and still get some good interactions with each other, plus it all pays off excellently down the line. And again, remarkably well balanced. It doesn't feel like any one character is taking the center or hogging the limelight which is a key feature in what makes the movie work so well as a team-up. And that balancing act is difficult as hell. I have nothing but props to the writing of Avengers for pulling that off. The one thing I will concede is that calling it 'perfect' was obvious hyperbole, since no film is perfect, but I struggle to conceive of a way Avengers, for what they were aiming for, could've been done better. EDIT: Besides which, does 'slightly sluggish pacing in first half' really justify all the bitching it's been getting so far? If I were in the mood to do so, I could probably find an equivalent problem in every other movie on this list. And I got no issues with you personally considering it a B+ film. Different strokes and all that. It's just the excess of whining (even for these lists) that always shows up when this film appears bugs me, especially since I rarely hear much good reason as to why it's so undeserving. You may think it has a sluggish first half but is that first half so bad as to justify this level of complaining? Hell, are you telling me that you think a movie that you personally rate a high B+ is that undeserving of a place on a group list? Not to say I think everyone should adore it, mind. I got nothing against people who wouldn't rank it in their top 100 or would prefer not to see it on the list. I'm just annoyed because of the level of complaining and double standards it gets.
