It will hurt in terms of taking away IMAX. Apparently GB is specially formatted for IMAX and Sony still didn't lock screens down so that audiences could see it when the word of mouth about the special IMAX format spread.

 

By the time most people know about it or hear "You have to see this in IMAX", it is no longer playing on that format.

Yesterday was the day that Inside Out started it's major campaign come back on Pets.  After today it will only be ahead of IO by about $15.5M, which means it lost over $4M to IO in the last 7 days.

 

I'm doubtful from here Pets wins more than a couple days over IO.  I'd say Pets probably falls in between Zoot and IO, which is still ridiculously great.  Not sure the film is worth that, as I haven't seen it, but quite impressive regardless.
