Has to be the most impressive day of RO's run.

A small, detached, analytical part of me is legit curious how much the terrible news of today is going to affect R1 today, and in the long run.  Tend to think the news of the passing is going to affect R1's box office more than Ep 8.  Where Ep 8 is going to get a bump is from all the tributes and celebration of her life into the leadup of release.

A related phenomenon, but not the same as Paul Walker and Heath Ledger.

Moana could be 205-210 by 2nd Jan. Probably looking at 230-240.

Sing, Moana, FB, DS all could end up in 230s.

I wonder how amazing Moana could've done this weekend without Sing and the tc loss? Almost increased for the 4 day even with it.

Some around the internet consider it blasphemy to ascribe that Ledger's death had any significant impact of TDK's box office.

Glad to see it said with some certainty once again.

Since Leia isn't, publicly, known to be in R1 I don't expect a bump for it of any import already 2 weeks into its run.

However, for Ep.8, where her scenes are filmed and it's her last co-starring role, I do expect a bump. A bump outside even SW #s.

Unfortunately, everywhere else I'm reading about RO BO people are comparing it to TFA. I keep banging my head on my keyboard. These people don't really understand how huge a hit this movie is.

It'll also be nice to have another datapoint to compare future December mega-blockbusters too. Having TFA alone was kinda difficult to make predictions. Although it's not tracking too far from Sherlock 2 in 2011.

Gonna spend a little time looking at the numbers.  Just so I don't drown myself in sorrows all day long:

Best Mondays Ever:

Rank Title (click to view) Studio Single Day Gross Theaters Average Date / Days in Release Gross to Date* Final Gross*

Sure, it was a holiday.  Still pretty damn impressive.

Even I wasn't predicting below 29m on Monday for it, that was just common sense. At any rate, this game is no longer any fun.

Yes, I think a moritorium on "Not an Event" jokes for at least 48 hours is in order.  Purposefully decided to stay away from it in my last post.

Indeed. We might see unusually smaller drops now for the rest of the week.

A normal 25-30% drop would result in 22-24M for Tuesday.

I think it might reach 25M. Maybe more.

Also, it was it's 2nd Monday. Obviously wouldn't happen on anything other than a holiday, but that's ridiculous.
