Didn't PR open in like France, Spain and Italy this weekend? In addition to the holdover countries? That is a pretty bad Intl Weekend number considering the new openings in 3 big markets.

By the time Power Rangers is released in South Korea and China there will be a fully HD copy floating about for free online. I don't see it doing well over there. It's over.

It seems like blockbuster films are huge financial risks that rarely earn a profit. Considering this, why do studios make them? Why not constrain their budgets as FOX did with D e a d p o o l? I, as a moviegoer, enjoy the huge spectacle of these big-budget flicks, but I don't understand why their financial-backers approve them.

Yeah pretty brutual. Whoever in charge of their OS promotion needs to be fired.

Of movies opening over $50m (about 200 movies) Watchmen had the worst multiplier and Snyder has two of the worst top 4 (all under 2x).  Quite the feat.

I only saw the extended edition and felt while the movie had some stellar scenes it was wildly uneven, bloated and dragged.  The supporting characters were immeasurably more watchable & entertaining (and better acted) than the main duo (especially Ackerman who was horrendous)

That was part of the problem, while they were technically a duo, I always felt like Nite Owl was sort of the side-kick. Nite Owl and Silk Specter were probably the best audience stand-ins, because they were almost certainly the most relatable major characters for the audience. But Rorschach and Comedian and even Dr Manhattan were SO good that, and I remember reading a comment by, I think Snyder even, commenting that compared to Rorschach, everyone else feels like a cardboard cut-out. So, even on top of Ackerman being terrible, the characters we were asked to identify with were just so boring.

And then they somewhat screwed up Ozymandius which irked me. And finally, the cherry on top, is the screwing up the "Nothing ever ends" line. Which seems silly, since its only one line, and I actually like how they handled the Manhattan-Ozymandius part at the end better than in the graphic novel overall. And they way the set it up, there was just no way for that line to happen properly. But, dammit, that line is the philosophical center of the story. I read it in high school when the graphic novel came out, that line (and the story overall) blew my mind, and is still probably one of the 10 things I've read that's influenced me the most.

I'd be like doing a movie on the Book of Genesis and leaving out "Let there be light". Sure, its only one line, but its kind of an important line to leave out.

Lots of $200m movies make huge profits, you know. And without the huge budget, some parts that the audience wants won't be in the movie.

Most of Deadline's top 20 profitable movies from 2016 had budgets of 150M or above. A lower budget does lead to higher profits, but not too many low budget blockbusters break out that big anyway.

My final prediction on PR totals after it run..  Final total in US being 87M. Based of other similar movies and I will go 160 World Wide. Not great at all. I once had it at 250M World Wide weeks ago,but that's far out of reach now.

It's Lionsgate, they don't have O/S distribution which is why they sell rights to local distributors.  Each territory had it's own.  It's doubtful they all did a bad job so it comes down to a lack of O/S interest in this movie in the current crowded marketplace.

Yep, spending $56m on Life and $100-130m on Power Rangers and GhostInTheShell  didn't make them profitable.

Sorry don't see 500 being dead for BatB.

Cinderella, granted it was its third weekend, in the same point in time in respect to Easter made 17M.  In the next 2 weeks it made about 31M.  And this was going against F7.

If BatB just follows that it should make another 45M or so which puts it around 477 after weekend 6.

If BatB falls well below that then yeah 500 is likely in trouble.  But until then it's still in the table imo.

Why is so importatn to get 500?
+ or - 15M doesn't make a difference.
BATB is a succes, I don't care if it ends with 480 or 510.....
I don't see the difference....

I don't care either. I just wanted it to get to 1 billion, which will happen in the next few days.

So, I'm more than satisfied.

I think the real event of this year could be if FF8 beats the OW record of TFA in China first weekend.

At least minus previews (190 million) it seems it´s almost done for the reports of Chinese industry.

Very historical fact!!!

TFA made $124m total in China.  How is it's OW a record?

I believe they mean TFA's Domestic OW, which is $247m inc. $57m previews, hence their $190m.

What's up with the whole Smurfs replacing other words thing going on across the site? Did someone hack the sight or something? Cause if not, I think that's very unprofessional and annoying to force people into a meme, one that isn't particularly funny in the first place.
