The Hunger Games OS thread: 258M Total

Recommended Posts

The books are massive here. It is quite literally all the everyone is talking about (excluding the select friends who are Game of Thrones fans).I was working when the trailer came on in front of This Means War and multiple different groups of girls (and some guys) were really excited.

Do you have any numbers -- book sales -- for Australia?

Yeah international book sales would be very interesting to see.

From Scholastic Australia: It has developed a massive global following, with over 16 million copies in print in the United States and over 350,000 in Australia.Since it's now 23 mio for the USA we can assume it sold maybe 500'000 or so in Australia. If you look at the population thats 1/3 it sold in the USA. Still very good.

Ah, okay, it found it: "Right now, there are 30 million Hunger Games books sold world wide..."

This number was reported in the UK press during the last months.

Means it sold appr 23 mio or so in the USA and 7 mio in the rest of the world.

I guess sales haven't been so hot in the rest of the world. If Canada follows the 10% of US rule (which it does fairly well) then we can assume 2 million Canadian sales and 5 million book sales for the international markets. Not very good for the movie's OS outlooks IMO.

When Twilight was released in November 2008 the series had sold 25M copies worldwide, 20M of those were domestically. It only sold 5M overseas and yet the OS gross matched the domestic gross. These things usually break out in the US first and then they get going overseas once they are released and become established brands. It will do fine IMO. Edited by Magic
