Too tired to do a count, but tomorrow's 2D showings are looking really good (locally). 10 am through 9:25pm (8 total) will no doubt be sold out with only a spattering of a few in the middle and the front available). Even the 11:15pm showing is filling up and could sell out. My theater also had added one more showtime tonight so wouldn't surprise me if they added another tomorrow.

 

And outside of the first showing on 3D, the other 4 are doing okay; one of them could sell out.

10am here sold out. 11:15am probably will too. Amazes me anybody would want to purchase tickets right up front (which was all that was available when I checked earlier).

 

Edit: 11:15 sold out, 12:30 sold out.

 

Edit 2: Over an hour before showtime, 2:35pm sold out.

 

Edit 3: 7:10pm sold out

 

Edit 4: 6:05pm sold out and 9:25pm certainly will

 

Edit 5: 9:25pm sold out; it'll be close, but the 11:15pm might sell out, currently ~70% sold

The afternoon and evening shows seem very strong at the Arclight Sherman Oaks. No official sellouts but almost every show is at least 80% full.

4:20p XD - Sold Out

7:40p XD - Sold Out

5:00p - Around 60% full

6:20p - Around 80% full

8:20p - Around 70% full

9:40p - Around 40% full

 

The majority of the 3D shows are around 20% or less so far but they'll probably fill up when the standard shows sell out

 

I'll update it in a couple hours

I guess i'll add the AMC IMAX too

 

4:00p IMAX 3D - Sold Out

7:30p IMAX 3D - Sold Out

11:00p IMAX 3D - 30-40% Full

 

4:30p Dolby - Sold Out

11:30p Dolby - 20-30% full

 

I would count the rest but the majority are near sell outs at least 2hrs before showtime

I think it comes down to people tired of paying the surcharge for it (here it's $3).

Yeah usually when i go to the theaters, 3D is the last option

Unless it's a 3D event, which I can't think of the last one that was (Avatar?), I generally go for 2D. I think the last 3D I went to was The Force Awakens.

 

As a side, the 4:35pm just sold out here.

Our 3D is really terrible at one of our theaters and amazing at the other so it's a crapshoot depending on where things are playing. I've never tried it at our Grand, it might not be so bad there.

Yeah, it was my first movie in 3D since Warcraft and I was surprised on how good the 3D was. It didn't seemed like a movie to be seen in 3D, so it was good to be proven wrong.

Update as well.

 

Also wanted to add, perhaps since WW was sold out, two showings of Pirates, one of Boss Baby and one of GOTG2 were sold out. Now, for context, at least with BB and GOTG2, those might've been in smaller theaters, almost guarantee it was small for BB.
 

As a side, for Boss Baby, they have a 10:10pm showing. Why? Seems awfully late.
