The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

I saw Mile 22 will be getting some IMAX screens, but I have seen nothing on Alpha getting those screens after advertising advertised it as an IMAX experience.

The tracking is for a $7m opening.  IMAX theaters probably passed on giving it screens when they also still have The MEG & MI2 which will be doing more.

CRA is looking very light at my theater tomorrow, but that’s expected.

The 4:00 I'm seeing on Saturday is already 1/5 full in an auditorium that seats just over 200 people (in other words, it's sure to sell out). Likely gonna be very popular in more upscale areas.

Crazy Rich Asians (3-Day) 62 1027 6.04%
Crazy Rich Asians (5-Day) 100 1595 6.27%

Using the film's 5-Day against 3-Day comps (Don't know if that's a good idea, but I don't really care, so...):

125% of Game Night (21.2M)

154% of Blockers (31.6M)

64% of Life of the Party (11.4M)

111% of Book Club (15.1M)

44% of Ocean's 8 (18.2M)

27% of Mamma Mia (9.5M)

227% of Spy Who Dumped Me (27.5M)

Yeah, things are looking pretty soft at my theater. Don't know if it will translate to soft results, but sadly I'm not as confident in CRA breaking out like I was a week ago.

I'm not seeing high teens for Mile 22 from the Fandango pre-sales - it's at less than 1/2 of Sicario 2 and a 1/4th of EQ2

If it follows those movie pre-sales to OW ratio.

Rampage 705 1508 2213 35.75 16156 12.94

Feel pretty 871 1610 2481 16.03 6461 5.18
Mile 22 282 519 801

Johnson movie played family / walk up heavy, making a 13m look like an optimistic prediction here.

That nice to see Sicario 2 and EQ 2 being so close, both R-rated action sequel, obviously same for Rampage/Skyscraper being so close.

Do show some possible predictive power to make from those.

I still don't understand what Geetha Govindam is. According to Box Office Mojo, it doesn't even exist.

They often don't have Foreign film releases until after they open.  It's common for them to be very pre-sale heavy and appear in the top 5 ticket sales though and it's opening today on a Wed.  It's a romantic comedy

It's Indian Independence Day today. All the big releases this week are Wednesday releases.
