Is this 6pm Thor opening event common for these movies?  $30 tickets for Real-D, popcorn, collectors coin and lanyard.  Most are full around here by now...should really boost previews...

Yes but $20 a piece.

$30 here....checked NYC, $30 also and pretty full showings - barely at seats left at AMC Loews.  Smart to raise the price point and take advantage of the superfans on movies like this.

Impressive to be there already on Monday morning.

Fan driven event, so not necessarily. I'm expecting close to 4M for previews for it to be honest, if not a bit more.

I agree.  Just saying as the theaters here still just have 2 to 4 showings for Blade Runner Thursday.  Tomorrow a lot more showings will show up and presales will uptick.

@grim22 Any updates from deepwang. How is BR2049 and Thor doing. I hope Blade Runner at least opens to 50m.

BR2049 is still on par with Dunkirk, about 3 times bigger than where Kingsman was, first Thor comps will be valid starting this Thursday when Guardians 2 had its first presale update, Thor's current number is about 30% below that number.

BR2049 should have less rabid fanbase than Nolan(hopefully). Thor seems to be headed around 100m OW. Only interesting thing is the trend. Is the PS % on the rise(say relative to Civil War) or is it on decline/flat. That might provide better perspective.

We should also having tracking next week for sure.

It always seems like they have a big burst out the gate(BATB did 1m in 2h hours I think, then didn't hit 2m for a few weeks), and then holds steady, slowly increasing the closer release gets.  Then, as showtimes are posted for the week, there's a much bigger increase.

@grim22 is the expert here, so he can probably explain it a little better.

This was a weird one because they released them so far our in advance of anything else in the MCU.

I have talking relative. on a absolute level its true for all movies. But if the overall numbers are very low and real action only begins on the week of the release(except for movies named Star Wars), this does not matter at all.

Didn't Marvel release Civil War PS quite early as well.

30% below GOTG2 doesn't seem really low to me.  Especially for a third Thor movie.

I don't remember exactly when the CW2 tickets went on sale, maybe they were this early too, but that's was always going to be a bigger movie.  This is fucking Thor, lol.  Two months of presales is the same as TFA and TLJ for crying out loud.

For kicks, I've decided to give presales updates on how tickets are selling at my university's local Movie Tavern. This specifically looks at OWs for each movie currently selling tickets.

Bladerunner 2049 is actually selling pretty well. It is well ahead of Kingsman 2, which was at 53 tickets sold at the same point. Tuesday is always the day where more showings get added and tickets surge with discount Tuesday. I'll post an update tonight around 10pm.

Bladerunner 2049 81 580 14.0%
My Little Pony 14 234

Is this an Atom theater - MLP tickets will probably skew way up at those theaters today...

Case in point - for Friday night showings, I have 2 locals - 1 on Atom and 1 not - MLP is already 1/2 sold at the Atom theater, and it's sold 2 tickets at the other (same 7pm showtimes)...and the deal is only 8 hours old:)...

Seems $2 is a price to get people to jump and buy around here for MLP...

I wonder if you're going to have adult men buying tickets to Blade Runner and sneaking into My Little Pony.

I'm totally not trying to see both....

There isn't a reason I'm going to the further IMAX theater to avoid people I know recognizing me...
