If Wonder Woman was seen as a safe movie WB would have made one ages ago and Marvel wouldn't have waited 10 years into their Universe to release a female led movie. The fact is a lot of people thought that Wonder Woman would fail because it was starring a woman and the character was seen as not being able to work story wise...for some reason. People pretending now that Wonder Woman was a safe bet is ridiculous. Wonder Woman is a goddamn Triumph all around and no amount of revisionist History can change that.

Please.

Wonder Woman is one of the most recognisable characters on God's Earth, and a decent comic book movie is gonna make money.

Black Panther is a risk, Wonder Woman wasn't.

Imagine ten years ago someone told you that Disney was going to green light a $200 million movie starring the Guardians of the Galaxy characters.

Now imagine what their reaction would be. I am willing to bet that the person would laugh in your face and say the movie is going to be a flop.

So folks can say GOTG isn't a risk NOW because it was so successful but come on....no one in their right mind would have ever thought a movie like Guardians would be as big as it is today. And thats just one reason how the MCU in itself is a risk.

Iron Man, Cap, Thor, Guardians, Strange, and Ant-Man were all risks. Somewhat ironically, Incredible Hulk was probably their least risky based on audience awareness, and yet it's still their worst performing movie.

Coming up, Black Panther and Captain Marvel are risks, BP probably more so. But then when/if they're successful they'll no doubt be seen as always having been surefire things.

The Captain America movies have generally been far uglier than the typical MCU fare, I'll give you that. In fact, they wouldn't look out of place in DCEU.

The first Cap is quite lovely to look at.  The last two are greyer and more militarized and not nearly as pretty but much of them happen in the sunlight so no they wouldn't fit in the DCEU.

The Thor movies being "ugly" is a baffling comment to me, but to each their own I guess. I think the IM movies strike a pretty nice visual tone, considering they could be very ugly very easily given their settings.

I feel like with Thor and Iron Man 3 it's particularly disappointing. Black and Branagh are two directors that have shown they are capable of some real visual verve but I feel like they were restrained by the system

The Russo Brothers talents are wasted on the MCU, they need to make the movie they were born to make..... 6 seasons and a movie!

They were running out of steam during season 6. It ended at a good time. Also for all the commotion about the show being cancelled or not cancelled, to reach six seasons is really impressive.

Lol, it's started. A female superhero helmed by a female director was never a risk. That's why studios were making them in abundance. Ugh.

Aside from Iron Man 3 and Winter Soldier of course.

Those movies deserve to be put in a museum next to the works of Van Gogh.

Thor should be next to the Mona Lisa since they're both overrated pieces of shit.

I don't see how the Thor's or the Iron Man sequels are any less brutishally ugly (and I think Iron Man 3 is great)

I am now convinced you are delibertly being a contrarian.....p;laying the old game of trying to prove how daring you are praising movies wildly disliked, and attacking movies that are popular, The Armond White routine. Once in a while a unpopular opinion is fine (I have some myself) but if you do it constantly you have to expect people to think you are putting on an act to show how unconventional and edgy you are.

Black Panther isn't a risk on any level.  It is going to be huge.

Im scared about China and some other territories though. It should do well in the UK too, my mum even wants to see it and she doesnt do modern films (or blockbuster films) at all.

Still need a movie though. Annie and Jeff must end up together, I accept no other solution.

My favorite movie of the year so far is Baby Driver. I'm so edgy

Or maybe it's his opinion?
