Because it's a iconic sacred cow? That hasn't stopped studios before.

And it even has more of a hook for a remake than Carrie, Evil Dead, The Thing etc. because Kubrick's movie was notoriously very different than the book.

100% agreed. Whether King liked it or not (...and let's be honest: his miniseries was terrible), nobody else denies that Kubrick's Shining is an icon of horror filmmaking and probably won't be touched anytime soon. The Stand is probably WB's next hunt, if not straight up an attempt to buy out The Dark Tower or maybe even a Misery or a Stand By Me from Sony. The Shining? Not in the next 15-20 years at least.

Misery? No way. No one will top Kathy Bates

I doubt anyone other than King would want a "proper" Shining movie. The original has simply become too big and iconic. Maybe in another decade or two but for now Kubrick and Nicholson are still casting really long shadows.

Well let's not forget the version that King approved kind of sucked.

King got his version and it was awful. I say this as an uber fan of both the novel and Kubrick's film.

Even he is smart enough to know Kubrick "won" that battle.

While it's not a faithful adaptation, The Shining is a bloody good film and any actor is going to struggle against Jack Nicholson's magnificent  performance.

WB produced a stage play based on Misery with Bruce Willis and Laurie Metcalfe which got mixed reviews. I'm surprised Dr Death hasn't been optioned or in development.

Agreed.  And I don't want anyone touching Stand by Me either.  Cujo I don't want just because I'm not big on movies that show dogs in that manner.

Something different I'd like to see adapted from King either Eyes of the Dragon or the Talisman.

I don't say that I want a Shining remake, just that we might get one anyway. Kubrick's Shining is a masterpiece plain and simple, but if someone is searching for a Stephen King to adapt after It's huge success, The Shining will seem like one of the easiest sells.

IT had an easier ride because the miniseries hasn't aged well and was quite tame. The Shining would have an uplift battle.
