Try melatonin, @Avatree

i'll ask the doc if they can prescribe that. Cheers.

I think they may be avert to prescribing me any drugs as they believe that I'll mix drugs in my system (?) at least that's what the last doctor said.

@GraceRandolph I personally wouldn't take zopiclone, I remember being prescribed them a few years ago and wasn't aware they may have hallucinatory side effects. Went to bed trying to sleep and gollum opens my door, comes in my room jumps on me, telling me, "We hates the filthy hobbitses! Kill the fat, filthy hobbitses!"

That was wild. Terrifying the first time and then after that, I was fine with it, but still hallucinating. Every time I took them one of the movie posters in my room would come alive. I had giant Jaegers, a tiger, Stormtroopers walking around my room and talking to me.

Needless to say that did not help me sleep.

Dont think i would be in a rush to get zopiclone again, though I know someone who sells it (seriously, sleeping pills sold by drug dealers... what has the world come to).

iirc I remember taking my leftover zopiclone pills to a party once, me and my mates tried to have a trip...

I believe hallucinatory side effects are extremely rare in terms of how many people experience that. It was something like 1 in 10,000 people experience hallucinations.

Lucky me.

Hey at least you can get a trip pretty cheap - assuming the drug dealers sell it for a good price  :Venom:

Velvet Buzzsaw was neat. Always here for some Jake Gyllenhaal Netflix Movie Shenanigans.

And always here for Dan Gilroy's character names:

Roman J. Israel can't be topped but a strong showing in the INTERESTING name department.

@Avatree and @GraceRandolph and others with the same problem

I sleep since 35+ years in average 2 hours per 24h. Personal record not sleeping at all is 8.5 days. Repeatedly.

Only times I can sleep longer is during times I am running a high fever, no idea why.

Never do soldering without air filtration professionally, we all did it at work not knowing that, we all have ~ chronicle heavy metal toxification (chronicle, as it build up over the years).

Most important to me was: to not try to sleep any-more as in as more I tried it as less I was able to start it.

Lights down, no direct focus on the eye area, hearing a boring audio book very quietly... is something that works sometimes.

As I did try out a lot discussed it with a lot of ppl and medical persons.... some hints that might help:

Changing the bed (as mattress) or its position can help too. If someone can sleep on a friends couch better than at home, look into high power cables, fungal problems, .... too.

What to eat within the last 3-4 hours before sleeping (e.g. no cow milk based grocery, ....)

No watching / doing thrilling things in the same time-frame.

There are people out there with ... a bit to a very displaced (? term) reaction time to coffee, black tea, cola,.... try out not to drink/eat any of those after high noon. Chocolate contains a lot of caffeine too as an example.

Write a kind of time table diary: weather/changing, how in the morning, every some hours, what meals contained, when and how much which fluids, when sport ... how long. Try to find a pattern.

E.g. cow milk based cheese can result in head ache up to 3 days later (some ppl react only to certain types of cheese, e.g. the harder ones / to cut.. term?) It can need time to find the pattern.

PC gamer are often in danger to develop sleeping problems, reduce the times and again, not during the 3-4 hours before sleeping can help too. In that case a kind of a time table for what to do when during the day (and really following it!) can be of help, it needs many months to de-train the 'neglected sleeping hygiene' (to lead a stable life rhythm)

burn out depression .... check how is the work and or family situation, constant stress is bad too

If nothing of that helps or applies:

seek a specialist. Someone with a good reputation, a reputation to really help and not one with a cult following.

Sometimes ppl have a slight problem thing (I forgot the term) in the brain, .... a developing / start of a serious illness, the body often reacts earlier than the mind.

Good luck!

thanks @terrestrial - I'm aware of some of those. No milk before bed? I often drink a glass of milk when I go to bed. I don't play games, did when i was a teenager, not any more not really. I'm certainly stressed (though a lot of it is my own doing).

The milk thing counts only for some.

Its only a suggestion to try out to look out for pattern that might cause it or support it.

Meals: what the body 'likes/dislikes' can change with age too.

My husband can not sleep if he eats onions early evenings or later as an example. Hence the idea to write down a lot of details (a suggestion of a professional, not my own idea)

It can be a combination of things / situations, each for its own is fine, in a certain combination it changes how you might react (certain meals and stress or... too)

I forgot:

there are cheap blood pressure measure things to buy, measuring that over the day and write it said diary / chart can help too to find out things.

Stress: maybe you can find a way to finalize a project, a problem.... earlier in the day? I do not know your details, its difficult to formulate accordingly.

I learned that ppl with sleeping problems often get not advised over the most common possible reasons / not above that.

Its meant to give an idea about sometimes its not The One Reason, and / or a reminder that not all ppl react to all in the same way / we all differ. Its not meant that the hints are the sole possible reasons or possibilities to find out how to get help / help yourself 😉

I find temperature a big thing for me to be able to sleep...I need a cold room with a ton of blankets (so I can literally snuggle in and cocoon)...if the room is too hot, I can't sleep.

I also find taking a steaming bath with aromatherapy about 2-3 hours before bed gets me relaxed...and then I don't eat after the bath...so, I head to bed fully digested, relaxed, and then looking to warm up under covers:)...

And if all else fails, when I really can't sleep, bad movies and football or other sports with the volume on really low or off lulls me to sleep on a couch...I don't even try sleeping...I try to pay attention and eventually can't...this works when I get into the "why can't I sleep" mode...

PS - I have also taken walks at 2am outside in the freezing cold to again cool myself down before aching to be warm again...that's if it's really bad:)...

That is what I meant with my low light and quietly hearing something boring.... (for me audiobooks work best nowadays as the light does not flicker like in a movie. The movie version I did for years too, never too action..., quiet stories, no thriller)

If my brain can't shut down, total darkness and quiet makes me ~ listening to my brain too much, the last step is missing.

The moment I think I really want to sleep / need to sleep... its over.
