THANK YOU! I was getting crazy here thinking I was the only one seeing how being well received by critics helped the genre to explode in the past few years.

You most certainly are not. I couldn't agree with your points more.

My two cents. I love 80's horror but besides for a few movies 90's and early 2000's horror was trash. I do think that horror movies have gotten better than that dark period and I am forever grateful. 15 years ago I don't think that there was any chance of any studio treating another adaption of IT like much of a real film. The Conjuring breaking out after proto Conjuring Insidious success was such a blessing for the genre.

Awww I love 90’s horror!

Early 2000’s had some great films too:

American Psycho, Jeepers Creepers, The Others, The Ring, 28 Days Later, The Descent, Dog Soldiers, House of 1000 Corpses, High Tension, Saw, Joy Ride, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Freddy vs Jason, Final Destination, Wrong Turn, Dawn of the Dead, Creep, Dead End, Identity.

I don’t refuse to accept when I’m wrong. I think that’s your problem and why you lost your responses to each comment, hence why I’ve been replying that way. You tout your personal opinions around like their facts in every thread.

You say in bring old franchises into it but you’re being very selective in your examples, ignoring the films that aren’t convenient in driving your point home.

I’m out with that too, thanks!

I answered to each of your arguments.

90s horror was a freakin wasteland. The 00s wasn't much better. Torture porn. 🤢 Platinum Dunes. 🤮

Julia Roberts ruled the world at that time.

Wonder if there s correlation.

Conjuring breaking out was like the deep state choosing an exorcism film to be mainstream and uneasy on the senses (and being solid critically)

Now it's 66 or 67%. And the top critics score has gone rotten.

Reminds me of a mini-blair witch, or evil dead (2013) since that had a steep drop too

I vividly remember what happened with Blair Witch but only vaguely when it comes to Evil Dead 2013.

Evil Dead was at 100% a few weeks before release because of SxSW then it dropped hard to like 62%

Saw it last night. Good flick, liked the cast (especially Lithgow, I don't know why I like him so much but I just do). However, the ending was a little...abrupt for my tastes. Usually I like when there's a bit of an epilogue at the end of a horror.

Just popped over into the BLAIR WITCH thread and it's funny to see how it mirrors this one, right down to the "So sad that you guys care about reviews" comments once it hit 61% at RT. Basically, it's great to care about reviews when they're good and you're predicting a $40M+ opening, but if they're bad, ignore them because they totally don't matter. ;)
