Reminds me of all the doubt over IW. MCU never made a film as polarizing as TLJ though

YM!
You know I’m starting to come around on Alita, not top 10 but with Glass relatively underperforming, and a free market until Captain Marvel, I can see a small chance of tracking is good, $200M DOM can happen. That’s me being optimistic, something like $200M DOM/$800M WW is my best case scenario (it all depends on China and Asia tbh). Currently thinking: $50M (five day)/$125M DOM/$615M WW I would love to see it break out though, it looks great and would be nice for a unknown property to break out. If it disappoints critics & audiences, it might be a struggling underperformer. But if it’s a genuinely good movie, it might surprise us. I can literally go back and quote people saying IW wouldn't make more then 200 million because the MCU had run out of steam and had gone past it's peak. This is literally what people on here who are saying SW9 will underperform are saying.

Without China it would be $50mn short I think. TFA made $1.94B WW without China (+$124M). Only Avatar and Titanic managed more than that. Exactly same numbers OS-Ch as IW. Not saying EpXI will repeat TFA path os nor domestic, but I'm on the side of TFA>EpXI>TLJ, somewhere in the middle. But if EpXI is well received, I can see it closer to TFA than TLJ (could be on the 1.6B ww = 750 dom + 850 os).
