Ryan Reynolds, Taika, Angela Bassett all went to do a Marvel film after Green Lantern.  only Mark Strong stayed with DC.  good man.

Also Clancy Fuckin' Brown

Michael Clarke Duncan should have gotten a BP role btw. Man really died way too soon.

One of my favorite little Marvel anecdotes is how they would always talk about their "creative committee" of comic book writers who would "consult" on every script. People who really got the characters!

And then after Ike was gone Feige outright said it was absolute hell

Wasn't there only like one or two actual creatives on that commitee though? Then some toy people.

But yeah, its not a surprise that things seem to be going better having 6 fewer people to answer to.

Have you seen Dwayne Johnson's schedule? I imagine he's booked up for the next three years.

Yea but like, wait for him then. He's been talking about it forever, right? He obviously wants to do it.

Chuck? Mark Strong? Who's excited about that?

I hope it at least has a smaller budget, could maybe be fine in that case

Wait.....the dude from Chuck or Physch or whatever is getting the Shazam movie? I thought that was The Rock. What the fuck is happening?

The Rock was supposed to be the bad guy, then they cast Chuck as the good guy (a 10 year old in an adult body, like BIG or something). And apparently Rock was going to get a separate movie then, and then that isn't happening? So they cast Mark Strong as a different villain

And now it's Chuck vs Mark Strong

It's been made by New Line rather than WB so I can't imagine it's that expensive, probably $120-140m budget.

To me, the cast isn't the appeal but the concept and the tone. Johnson is exec producing so he has a hand even if he's not starring in it and you can bet he will cameo as BA.

Man it must be swell being a boring mid 30s white guy in Hollywood. Black filmmakers fight for decades to get one passion project and they're out here handing 200 million dollar superhero movies to the fucking Great Value version of Jim from the Office.

Mark Strong playing his 10000 boring stoic villain of the decade battling some guy from the Big Bang Theory or whatever he's from is barely enough to start a direct to DVD franchise

I think the rumor has it that The Rock is supposed to play Black Adam in Suicide Squad 2, and he's supposed to be the bad guy the gang has to fight? Why? I dunno?

Reminds me that Gunn last year more or less put the problems with Ronan in GOTG at their feet.

Maybe its a coincidence that his villain in GOTGv2 was much better, part of that general Phase 3 trend of decent villains?

Fast tracking the entire DCEU in response to Marvel was a bad idea period. WB / DC should have taken a different route entirely, instead of trying to play catch-up with Marvel. They shouldn't have gone straight from MOS to BVS so soon.

I think the DCEU "Phase 1" structure was fine. Doubt we needed yet another Batman solo reboot before JL. BvS and SS's massive OW's despite everything showed people didn't want a total replication of the MCU method. It was the actual films not named Wonder Woman that left much to be desired.

Regarding Cyborg, I think the problem is that he is nowhere near the most popular or interesting black superhero even at DC. Geoff Johns is simply pushing him because the character is one of his personal favorites. John Stewart GL, Vixen, Black Lightning and his daughters, Static Shock etc. have far more potential IMO.

Actually the role Strong has couldn't be farther from a stoic villain. He's playing a mad scientist, and could actually have a lot of fun in that part.

Ah so he'll be a boring eccentric villain this time instead

Yeah basically but I've lost track of all the DCEU rumors at this point. Hell until recently I thought Robbie wasn't going to be in SS2. (Then again knowing WB/DC. they probably didn't either until recently.)

At this point they need (or feel like they need anyway) Franchise Viagra. Him dropping out is the sort of thought which wakes them up with a cold sweat.
