Avengers, Dark Knight, Spider Man. Then Batman, Spider Man 2, TDKR, and Superman. Spider Man and Batman were box office freaks. Welcome to the club BP.

Attendance wise, it's more than likely that Dark Knight is #1 all time. They're separated by only $22 million on the adjusted chart. Yes it had IMAX, but it had no 3D, unlike Avengers. Irregardless, those are definitely the top 3 both in sales and attendance.

Keep in mind that most of these Monday sell out reports are coming from east coast big cities. I suspect cities like Duluth, El Paso, Portland, Salt Lake City, etc. are probably just experiencing a busier than normal (but not gangbusters) Monday.

Sure but then you still have cities like St. Louis, Chicago, Cleveland that are doing crazy business as well much more than Duluth, El Paso, etc.

Hmm I bet that's a point of contention among capewars

The fuck is wrong with some people.

Exactly! I even brought up that why is something like Black Panther being used for people to treat others with more disprespect. The movie is supposed to be a force for good, representing a very underrepresented demographic in Hollywood as well as giving millions of people a sort of icon that Hollywood rarely produces.

So how come so many people have to fight back?

Spidey might be #1 in attendance. No IMAX, no 3D, no PLF. Huge attendance by children with discount ticket prices.

They haven't. Demand is still high and supply still hasn't caught up. And plus, now with "top 5 all time" headlines, people who hadn't planned on it are gonna go see this for the curiosity factor, and so they're not left out of the conversation. It's full steam now.

This is the crazy part. So much of this on Twitter right now. Very good insights Jandrew.

So BP probably has a shot at top 5.

Incredible considering the superhero genre includes lots of megablockbusters.

Depending on Infinity War, Episode 8, and the rest of 2019, Panther could enter top 5 attendance for this decade. If Panther can pass Jedi and beat IW, then a top 5 decade finish could very well happen. Can't call anything a lock because if Episode 8 is heavy with the finale factor, it will likely bump them down one.

True. Probably is now that you say that. Only $46 million seperate them, but TDK has 6 years and IMAX on its side. Spidey 1 is the goat, but Bats is no second fiddle. Easily the most watched cinematic superhero of all time. 3 movies over $500 million.

Infinity War sure as shit isn't the JL.

I couldn't give a shit about your stupid stan war. My point was solo movies doing better than team up movies and sequels is no surprise.  It happened with Wonder Woman and Black Panther has a good shot also, it's going to finish above Civil War and Age of Ultron for sure. You act like adding more people on screen equals more box office. That's never been true.  The Avengers was an outlier.  Get off your high horse,  your name isn't Bob Iger.

Someone at a table behind me at lunch was talking very excitedly about BP.  Though it was starting to veer into spoiler territory   I asked him if he could wait two minutes since I was almost finished and then he could discuss away.  And he happily obliged

Iron Man is about $7.6 billion worldwide, Batman is $6.3 billion, and Spidey is $6 billion. Obviously that does not account for inflation or changes in overseas markets. But Iron Man has had a hell of a run from 2008 to now. About to add another $1.5 billion you would think (Spidey will too).

February 2018 will break 2012’s record. March 2018 looks more like March 2014. April is a mixed bag. May should be better than 2017 and 2018. June should ok. July shouldn’t be bad. August will die. September will be solid. October will be fine. November and December should be ok but nothing marvelous.

2018 may be the new yearly record thanks to big hits and smaller hits helping the year with bigger tent poles than last year, especially last summer’s slouch fest.
