The way this industry treats Black people, especially Black women, is so terrible. Groomers, cult members, and abusers can go so much farther with less talent and less success if they’re male and white.

I was coming to seeing if  y'all  were talking about her interview. It's so disheartening especially since iirc Taraji has said she hates that she has to audition for roles including this one  especially since she's  an academy award winning actress and has been working in Hollywood for 3 decades

Her issue isn’t Uncle Sam or splitting costs with her team, she’s done many interviews about this, her main issue is that black actresses don’t make the same amount as their white counterparts and despite being an Emmy and Oscar nominee she still has to audition, for example she had to audition and fight for this role in The Color Purple. Most of her white counterparts get offered roles, they dont have to stay on the audition circuit. She also said she had to fight for Danielle and Fantasia’s team to ask for a fair amount from the studio.

Thank goodness this looks like it will be a huge commercial success, though who knows what that will change sadly.

Yeah reviews for this ended up very good to most comparable award baiting musicals or even comparable subject matter, such as The Help. Definitely seems like BP nom now when you add in huge success. No idea what the Globes were on, missing their easy to get into musical/comedy cat is seeming pretty absurd at this point

They added a bunch of new international voters as part of the Globes being reformed, I guess they canceled out all the old HFPA members who were easy marks for even the most mid musicals, let alone good ones.

 

It's not just the Globes, many precursors have been lukewarm on TCP so far. Maybe the box office will give voters warmer feelings about it.
