Ezen Baklattan
BEST PICTURE NOMINEE BLINDSPOTTING Now, do correct my assumption if it is false. But in regards to modern cinema, the only ones who have even attempted blending poetry with the cinematic language are African American filmmakers. In 2010, Tyler Perry made a notable attempt when he adapted the chloropoem For Colored Girls into a feature film; the dialogue felt handcrafted rather than natural, ultimately allowing the ensemble drama to overcome its outdated style of production. This wistful approach to adaptation also applies to the brilliant If Beale Street Could Talk, a film whose dialogue cuts through hearts like butter even if one would not expect such words to be spoken by real men and women. But the most aggressive and creative application of poetry, perhaps thus far in the history of the cinematic language, is implemented by the masterful Sundance selection Blindspotting. It is not a film which adds a sense of wistfulness to its dialogue; rather, out of seemingly nowhere, characters will, as if it's a musical, burst into a little form a poetry many of us know by the name of "rap." The link between separate art forms is not all this film boasts, however. This film tackles important social issues such as gentrification, criminal justice, and race. It boasts two incredible perofrmances from Daveed Diggs, as a man doing his damndest to follow the rules of his probation for its final few days, and Rafael Casal, as a best friend who adopts a hardcore attitude only to find that the world's moving on from it. Blindspotting's unflinching honesty and refreshing humility peg this criminally underseen film as one of the most important films of 2018. It is available on DVD, VOD, and possibly Hulu, too. It should be seen by everyone as soon as possible. - @Slambros I thought about this one, I could have gone with the most fun I had with a movie this year and felt perfectly fine putting Crazy Rich Asians or Spider-Verse as my number one. But there was something gut-punching about this movie, as if it's able to stab into some truth and say something new about race relations that hasn't been put onto screen before. I was captivated by this movie from start to finish, you can feel the danger when Collin has to carry the gun, when the officer rolls down the highway. The film feels like reality until it blurs into nightmarish episodes, all highlighting the fear someone may have by existing while black. All of the performances are fantastic, even the smaller cameo like roles, such as Ethan Embry, completely nail their screentime. At the center of the movie is Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal who's duo dynamic blew me away. The film is intelligent and never wastes a moment of its relatively short runtime. Even aspects of the film that should be silly, like the freestyle rap at the end, turn into emotional climaxes of the film and never break the suspension of disbelief. Blindspotting is a perfect film. - @The Panda 9

Dementeleus
So I just went into a deep YouTube dive trying to find the Hitler "Catching Fire" box-office parody I did, and I can't find it. And if that doesn't sum up my uselessness here, I'm not sure what does. 2
