I saw The Favourite at the local arthouse, and it was clear the majority of the old people there did not expect the movie they watched lol

Best quote I heard walking out was "Uhhhhh, it was unique."

There were a lot of "WTF" comments from a bunch of unsuspecting old people whenever I saw The Shape of Water in theaters. It was glorious.

I think my entire audience for the Favourite stayed seated for the credits expecting a MCU post credits scene because they were clearly not ready for the film to end the way it did.

Matthew Mcconaughey went from "Oscar winner" to "That's the dude from the Lincoln commercials!" real fast.

I wonder if he regrets turning down the Kurt Russell role in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 to make...The Dark Tower. Yikes.

People ragging on McConaughey but thank goodness he's not making romantic crap anymore. You want him to go back to Fool's Gold? Good grief.

Are they hits? No. Are they all good? No, but it's different.

But...Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.

I miss "playing bongos in the nude" era McConaughey.

Rabbits are becoming all the rage as a cinematic motif

Is "romantic crap" worse than "artsy fartsy" crap? At least the romantic movies made money. He's too old for tht genre nowadays anyway

“Artsy fartsy” is the dumbest name I’ve seen for the genre of “Movie that’s actually original and not a franchise or generic knock-off of previous big hit”

Anyways, I think what McConaughey is experiencing here is also a bout of bad luck. On the surface, these choices make sense to me.

Sea of Trees - Movie from Gus Van Sant who's had a lot of critical success, ends up being a total dud

Free State of Jones - Gary Ross has had a steady career, probably didn't seem like much of a huge risk

Gold - Stephen Gaghan previously directed Syriana which got Clooney an Oscar

White Boy Rick - Yann Demange is an up and comer who had directed 71, which was highly acclaimed

Serenity - Steven Knight has his hands in a lot of things these days, but his previous directed film in Locke was a critical hit

Beach Bum - OK, McConaughey knew what he was getting into here. But he got to smoke weed with Snoop Dogg.
