Passengers North Hollywood 1/7/2017

85% full (all but front row and a few seats in second row)

Trailers

Blade Runner

Life

don't remember the others. Didn't get Beauty and the Beast this time.

A family complained that they couldn't get better seats as they walked into the second row. Chuckles and laughs at appropriate times, enthusiastic noises as people walked out.

I was surprised since the projections were so deflated for this weekend, but maybe Southern California weather is still pulling full theaters here, as opposed to other icy parts of the nation.

THAT'S what it was, it was so unremarkable I completely forgot about it.

It helps to take notes on the trailers, that's what I do.  Anyway...

A Monster Calls

1:15 PM on discount Tuesdays at the big fancy theater.

Word of mouth is doing well for this film, we had six people. Me and literally five old people.

Trailers

Gifted

Old People Robbing Banks

Monster Trucks (Which will probably make more money than this)

Smurfs

The Circle

The Zookeeper's Wife

(Can you tell no one had any idea how to advertise this thing?)

No one said a damn word although I did give a silent cheer at some of the actors on screen I admit. Some people even left 3/4ths of the way though and didn't return

A Monster Calls

Tuesday, January 10, 4:20

TRAILERS: (Unsurprisingly, a pretty random assortment)

The Zookeeper's Wife

The Circle

Born In China

A Dog's Purpose

Smurfs: The Lost Village

Gifted

The Space Between Us

Aside from me, the only people there were a couple of guys. One of them chuckled at a line the dad said, and I think I heard some sniffles from them towards the end. I loved this movie and cried like a baby by the end.

Also, when I first told the ticket seller I wanted to see this movie, she told me it wasn't playing until Thursday. It took us about a minute before we realized she thought I was talking about Monster Trucks. Which probably also gives you an idea of how many people have bought tickets for this movie here...

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - 9:40am

Probably 75-80% full

Trailers

The Boss Baby

Fate of the Furious

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2

Life (still has the old Memorial Day date at the end)
Power Rangers

Transformers: The Last Knight

Not much of a reaction to anything, though the kid next to me was excited for Transformers (why his parents sat him next to a complete stranger is beyond me but I wish they did, he was restless throughout the movie to the point he started curling up to fall asleep like he was in bed; my theater just got lounge chairs).

The Mummy (me and my friend started cracking the fuck up during the airplane scene since we both saw the leaked IMAX trailer, but other people seemed to like the trailer)

A shit ton of screaming and laughter at appropriate moments.  It was a completely sold out show in our biggest auditorium.  Applause at the end.

The trailer for The Mummy has gotten laughs both times I've seen it so far at the movies (Why Him? and now Split last night). Pretty sure that's not the reaction it seeks.

It's pretty hilarious in the first plane scene.  After that it's actually pretty good, but Cruise's scream is amazing.
