CJohn
So it begins. It was obvious Unbroken was gonna bomb almost everywhere OS but I always thought it would do well in the UK.
Heretic
If reviews were good, this could have done well during awards season. But they're not, so I doubt it'll pick up much steam. The Theory of everything should be pretty big here.
CJohn
Yeah, the same should happen with American Sniper if it also gets 0 Oscar nominations.
Hatebox
No surprise. Films that have even a whiff of American Exceptionalism have a tough time OS.
rockNrollaDIM
I knew Unbroken would bomb OS and even in the UK. Not sure why they even bothered with such a lavish premiere in London.
MonstersandRoy
Might have had a lavish premiere in London, but I've hardly seen any advertisements on the TV and not seen the trailer in cinema's (though didn't go a lot in 2014). There has been very little buzz for the film. I actually thought it was out next week here. Who said is bombing. 1 million in the UK but 1.7 millions in Spain is quite good for this kind of movie.

That's a very nice number for Spain. I have the most hope for Australia, and obviously China for more pessimistic reasons.

Angelina only promoted Unbroken in the UK, France, Germany and Austrália. As soon as she starts doing interviews for the Latin America countries you will see. Of course Unbroken will not have the domestic numbers overseas, but will not bomb.
Heretic
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies retains UK lead for third straight week with around £4.2m for £28.7m to date. Annie posts UK bow of around £2.3m from 380 sites from what was effectively an eight day opening (since Dec 20).Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and Penguins of Madagascar reach £5.4m and £5.6m, respectively, in the UK. Exodus: Gods and Kings is the highest new entry in the UK with estimated £2.7m bow. Expected more for The hobbit. DoS had a £5.4m 3rd weekend and £29.3m total. BoTFA isn't far behind, maybe the fact boxing day fell on Friday this year effected the weekend? Could still end up beating DoS's total. We'll see how it plays this week. Decent for Exodus, though it'll probably drop off fast like in the US.

CJohn
What the hell is happening to the UK during this holidays? Usually everything does great numbers here, and so far Hobbit, Exodus, Unbroken are all 3 disappointing. Is Paddington that big to be affecting everything? Heretic
Hobbit is £0.6m away from DoS at the same point. Hardly the end of the world. Paddington is on fire right now. What did you expect from Exodus? It flopped in the US. An opening near £3m is quite good, actually.

CJohn
Just because it flopped in America doesn't mean it had to flop in the UK. Is had been doing quite well over here, for example.
Jonwo
There's more competition this year in terms of film compared to last year or the year before that but I could see Hobbit making up for lost ground. There is still a week of holidays left.

Heretic
Paddington looks SO busy today. Lots of sold out shows, the most I've seen since it opened.
MonstersandRoy
Paddington could top the year at this rate, it seems to have great legs. Real test will be next week when the school holidays are over I'd imagine.
